New Mexico State 16, Incarnate Word 2 (5)
The Aggies exploded for 15 hits en route to a 16-2 five-inning win over Incarnate Word in their first game of the UTEP Invitational Friday. Staci Rodriguez, FIana Finau, Lacey Rother and Malena Padilla each drove in a pair of runs, while Susie Chandler hit a solo homer. Karysta Donisthorpe earned the win, allowing two runs on three hits while striking out four.
New Mexico State 8, Houston Baptist 3
The Aggies extended their winning streak to five games with an 8-3 win over Houston Baptist later in the day to improve to 7-5 on the season. Haley Nakamura was 3-for-5 with two RBI, while Padilla and Alyssa Ruiz both hit solo home runs. Makayla McAdams earned the win in the circle, giving up three runs on nine hits over four innings. Celisha Walker threw three hitless innings to close out the game.
Grand Canyon 9, Southern Utah 4
The Antelopes opened the GCU Invitational with a 9-4 win over Southern Utah Friday, belting a season-high 15 hits in the win. Kelsey Barak was 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI. Claire Zampini also had three hits, while Nicole Newbury, Stephanie Smith and Kayla Henry had two each. Taylor Nowlin earned the win, allowing four runs on four hits over five innings of work.
Grand Canyon 7, Nevada 6
Henry hit an RBI single up the middle to plate the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning as the 'Lopes defeated Nevada 7-6 later in the day. Lauren Regester had two RBI, while Barak, Newbury and Henry drove in one run each. Kiki Sepulveda earned the win in relief, scattering two hits and striking out two over 2.2 innings.
Loyola Marymount 12, Bakersfield 4 (8)
Loyola Marymount used an eight-run outburst in the top of the ninth to defeat Bakersfield 12-4 in the Roadrunners' first game of the UC Riverside Amy S. Harrison Classic Friday. Madison Bundy and Amber Mills had two hits apiece, while Karissa Veiga and Jessica Castaneda drove in one run each.
Texas Tech 5, Kansas City 4
The Kangaroos fell 5-4 to Texas Tech in their first game of the UTA Hilton Invitational Friday to drop to 5-6 on the season. Bri Wyatt and Katie Kelley had two hits each to lead Kansas City at the plate. Kelley suffered the loss in the circle, striking out four.
Loyola Marymount 1, Seattle U 0
The Redhawks were held without a hit, falling 1-0 to Loyola Marymount in their first game of the Amy S. Harrison Classic Friday. Seattle U had 10 strikeouts in the loss. Redhawk hurler Alyssa Reuble struck out six over six innings to fall to 0-4 on the season.
UC Riverside 4, Seattle U 2
The Redhawks fell 4-2 to host UC Riverside to close out the day. Bubba Morrow was 2-for-3 with a two-run home run. Jenny Hurst had a double to account for the third Seattle U hit in the loss.
