Grand Canyon 9, Southern Utah 4
The Antelopes defeated Southern Utah 9-4 in their first game of the day at the GCU Invitational Saturday. Nicole Newbury was 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI to lead Grand Canyon at the plate. Kailey Regester earned the win in relief, throwing five scoreless innings and striking out three to improve to 4-0 on the season.
Grand Canyon 13, Nevada 2
The 'Lopes had 15 hits in a 13-2 six-inning win over Nevada later in the day to improve to 8-7 on the season. Stephanie Pesqueira was 4-for-4 with three runs and four RBI while also earning the complete-game win in the circle. She allowed two runs, only one of which was earned, on six hits while striking out eight.
New Mexico State 5, Houston Baptist 3
The Aggies defeated Houston Baptist 5-3 in their first game of the UTEP Invitational Saturday. Fiana Finau hit a pair of homers in the game, driving in three runs. Karysta Donisthorpe earned the complete-game win, allowing three runs on five hits while striking out eight.
New Mexico State 11, Incarnate Word 2 (5)
The Aggies used an 11-run fourth inning to defeat Incarnate Word 11-2 in five innings to improve to 9-5 on the season and extend their winning streak to seven games. Lacey Rother was 2-for-3 with two runs and three RBI, while Susie Chandler hit a two-run homer. Makayla McAdams earned the win in the circle, throwing a one-hitter and notching two strikeouts over five innings.
Seattle U 10, Loyola Marymount 1 (5)
The Redhawks handled Loyola Marymount 10-1 in five innings at the Amy S. Harrison Classic Saturday to improve to 4-11 on the season. Lisa Maulden hit a solo homer and drove in three runs on the game, while Sarah Petosa also had three RBI. Lindsay Davis earned threw a complete-game one-hitter to improve to 2-2 on the season.
UC Riverside 15, Bakersfield 10
In a game with just three strikeouts and nine walks, the Roadrunners fell 15-10 to host UC Riverside at the Amy S. Harrison Classic Saturday to fall to 2-11 on the year. Karissa Veiga drove in four runs, while Jessica Castaneda had three RBI as two of four Bakersfield players with multi-hit games.
Illinois 7, Kansas City 0
The Kangaroos were on the wrong end of a complete game, one-hit shutout Saturday, falling 7-0 to Illinois in their first game of the UTA Hilton Invitational. Cinda Ramos threw four shutout innings before Illinois broke through in the fifth. She allowed five earned runs on 11 hits while striking out seven over 6.2 innings.
UT Arlington 4, Kansas City 3
The 'Roos fell 4-3 to the host Mavericks later in the day to drop to 5-8 on the season. Ramos, Alexandra Friloux and Katie Kelley each drove in a run in the loss.
