Grand Canyon 9, Hofstra 2

Phoenix, Ariz.-(GCU Media Relations) The Grand Canyon University baseball team (4-4) today cemented the series win over visiting Hofstra University (1-3) with a 9-2 victory at Brazell Stadium in the series finale. Over the course of four games against the Pride, the Antelopes collected 32 runs.

Ethan Evanko got the starting nod on the mound for GCU, allowing just two runs on four hits and three walks with two strikeouts over 6.0 innings to get the win and even his record at 1-1. Kyle Detwiler (1.0 IP) and Trent Wilson (2.0 IP) combined for three scoreless innings of relief, allowing just one hit in that time.

Northern Colorado 5, Colorado Mesa 3

GREELEY –(NC Media Relations) The top half of the Northern Colorado baseball order recorded six of the team's eight hits on Sunday afternoon as the Bears won the final game of the series against Colorado Mesa, 5-3.

The Bears (2-6) took the early lead and added single runs in the fifth and seventh to hang on against the Mavericks (5-2), who are ranked between sixth and 17th, depending on which Division II poll is used. Next up for the Bears is a four-game series against New Mexico in Albuquerque beginning on Friday, February 28.

Texas-Pan American 9, Prairie View A&M 3

EDINBURG – (UTPA Media Relations) The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs baseball team drew a season-high 13 walks to go with eight hits in a 9-3 win over the Prairie View A&M University Panthers on Sunday at Edinburg Baseball Stadium in the final game of the Al Ogletree Classic.

It was the Broncs' (5-3) highest walk total since drawing 13 at Houston Baptist on April 30, 2011. It was the third time the Broncs have draw 13 walks in a game since Manny Mantrana became head coach, and the first time at home.

Seattle U 4, Cal State Northridge 2

Northridge, Calif.-(SU Media Relations) Mac Acker (Redmond, Wash.) pitched great in his second start of the season, and the Seattle University offense finally came alive late in the game, as the Redhawks held on to defeat the Cal State Northridge Matadors, 4-2, Sunday afternoon in collegiate baseball action at Matador Field.

Acker was on the mound for eight innings, allowing just four hits, two walks, and one run while striking out six Matador batters. He got stronger as the game went along, retiring 15 of the final 16 CSU Northridge batters that he faced, as he earned his first collegiate victory since March 4, 2012, as a member of the Washington Huskies against Saint Joseph’s.

New Mexico State 4, SIU-Edwardsville 1

LAS CRUCES, N.M. –(NMSU Media Relations) For the second-consecutive week the New Mexico State baseball team won a series three games to one after beating the SIU-Edwardsville Cougars 4-1 on Sunday afternoon at Presley Askew Field.

The Aggies won the final three games of the series after losing the opener on Friday. With the win NM State improves to 6-2 on the season while the Cougars fall to 1-6.

Pepperdine 11, Utah Valley 8 (11)

MALIBU, Calif. -(UVU Media Relations) Playing its eighth road game in 10 days to open the season, Utah Valley University played extra innings for the third time this week, eventually falling 11-8 at Pepperdine on a three-run home run from Aaron Brown in the bottom of the 11th inning. The loss gives the Waves (6-1) a series sweep of the Wolverines (2-6).

UVU and Arizona played two extra-inning games during the week, with the Wildcats winning in 14 on Tuesday and the Wolverines in 10 on Wednesday. After Pepperdine took the first two games of the series, Sunday provided UVU its best chance to get a win in the three-game set.

Towson 3, Bakersfield 2

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.—(CSUB Media Relations) A Bakersfield error in the top of the ninth allowed the go-ahead run to score as Towson (4-2) defeated the Roadrunners (5-3) 3-2 Sunday afternoon at Hardt Field.

Chance Gusbeth (So., Lancaster, Calif., Desert Christian HS) drove in Oscar Sanay (Sr., Chula Vista, Calif., Bonita Vista HS) to give Bakersfield a 1-0 lead after one.

#21 Texas A&M 5, Sacramento State 0

COLLEGE STATION, Texas –(SAC Media Relations) Sacramento State had seven hits, including three doubles, but was unable to push a run across while No. 21 Texas A&M took an early 3-0 lead and added two more runs for a 5-0 win in the rubber match of a three game weekend series.

After earning a 1-0 win in the series opener on Friday, the Hornets dropped the last two games of the series to move to 4-4 overall this season. The Aggies rallied for a walk-off win last night and rode seven shutout innings from sophomore Grayson Long on Sunday to take the series and improve to 6-1.

Savannah State 7, Chicago State 5

SAVANNAH, Ga. –(CSU Media Relations) Junior Jordan Stroschein (Marion, Iowa/Linn-Mar) knocked in three of Chicago State's five runs in the Cougars' 7-5 loss at Savannah State on Sunday (Feb. 23).

Early offense hasn't been a problem for the Cougars as for the fifth time in six games Chicago State was the first on the scoreboard. On Sunday it was a two-spot in the top of the first. Juniors Chase Matheson (McHenry, Ill./McHenry) and Stroschein both had RBI singles in the inning. Savannah State plated a run in the bottom of the first to answer back.
