MOSCOW, ID - The Idaho men and the Grand Canyon women captured the 2014 WAC Indoor Track and Field Championship at the Kibbie Dome in Moscow, Idaho on Saturday. It was the second WAC Indoor Championship title for Idaho and the first for the Grand Canyon women.

For the men, Idaho scored 173 points, edging Grand Canyon who finished with 172 points. Utah Valley's men placed third with 113 points, Kansas City fourth at 80, Texas-Pan American fifth with 57.50 points, Seattle U sixth with 44 points and Chicago State seventh with 18 points.

For the women, the Grand Canyon recorded 166.50 points. Kansas City was second with 144.50 points, Idaho third at 127, Utah Valley fourth with 80 points, New Mexico State fifth with 69 points and Texas-Pan American rounded out the standings with 31 points.

For the men's individual awards (voted upon by the coaches), Grand Canyon's Tyler Van Dyke was Track Performer of the Year. GCU's Kevin Lashley earned Field Performer of the Year. Grand Canyon's Van Dyke and Kevin Lashley split the High Point Performer of the Year, as they both tallied 20 points during the championship. In his final season in the WAC, Idaho's Wayne Phipps was voted the Coach of the Year. Idaho's Arphaxad Carroll took home Freshman of the Year honors.

For the women's individual awards (voted upon by the coaches), Kansas City's Courtney Frerichs won Track Performer of the Year. Grand Canyon's Sharine Hodges and Kansas City's Briana Carter both scored 22.50 points to share the High Point Performer of the Year honors. Kansas City's Dahlia Dyson, garnered Field Performer of the Year, and GCU's Jenny Rolf took home Freshman of the Year honors. Grand Canyon's Tom Flood was voted Coach of the Year, in his first year in the conference.

The final day of competition started with the women's weight throw. Kansas City's Dahlia Dyson claimed gold in the event with a toss of 61-00.00. Grand Canyon's Vanessa Levy placed second (60-06.50 and Texas-Pan American's Erika Anderson was third (55-00.75).

In the finals of the women's long jump, Grand Canyon's Brianne Kee took the title with a mark of 18-04.25. Kansas City's Michelle Momo placed second with a jump of 18-03.00 and Texas-Pan American's Deandra Barroso was third at 18-02.50.

Idaho's Matt Sullivan won the men's pole vault gold medal with a height of 16-06.75. Grand Canyon's Daniel Zupeuc took silver with 16-02.75 and Utah Valley's Michael Ashton won the bronze with a height of 15-05.00.

Idaho's Katelyn Peterson won the women's high jump title with a mark of 5-06.00. Grand Canyon's Jessica Yates placed second with a height of 5-05.00 and Kansas City's Dasjah Mason took third with a mark of 5-03.75.

The men's shot put title was won by Idaho's Andrey Levkiv with a toss of 54-10.00. Kansas City's Blake Hocking took sivler with 52-10.25, while Texas-Pan American's Jesus Alvares placed third at 49-08.50.

The first running title of the day went to New Mexico State's Diana Hawk as she placed first in the women's mile run with a time of 4:57.42. Seattle U's Sophie Curatilo took second at 4:58.93 and Idaho's Marquita Palmer placed third with a time of 5:00.31. On the men's side, Texas-Pan American's Martin Casse won gold with a time of 4:17.80. Kansas City's Bryce Miller took second at 4:18.24, while Seattle U's Collin Overbay won bronze with a time of 4:18.24.

Kansas City's Shanelle Williams won the gold in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.51, followed by Grand Canyon's Maria Kropf at 8.67 and Kansas City's Sydia Darker in third at 8.76. The men's 60-meter hurdle champion was Grand Canyon's Jahliell Wiltshire, who won gold with a time of 8.12. GCU's LeSean marks won silver with a time of 8.25 and Kansas City's Joshua Schirmer took third at 8.32.

Grand Canyon's Moya McKenzie won the women's 400-meter dash. Kansas City's Briana Carter placed second at 56.46, while Utah Valley's Samantha Sweet placed third with a time of 56.68. Idaho's Ben Ayesu-Attah took the men's 400-meter dash title with a time of 47.57. Idaho's Andrew Bloom placed second at 47.90 and Seattle U's Shaddye Melu placed third at 48.25.

Grand Canyon's Shavine Hodges won the women's 60-meter dash title with a time of 7.35. Teammate Samantha Bogatz was second with a time of 7.58 and Kansas City's Michelle Momo was third at 7.62. Utah Valley's Nicholas Taylor won the gold in the 60-meter dash on the men's side with a time of 6.84, followed by Kansas City's Kenny Roach (6.85) and Idaho's Arphaxad Carroll in third (6.90).

The women's 800-meter title went to Grand Canyon's Jelena Andjelkovic with a time of 2:14.18. Idaho's Marquita Palmer placed second at 2:14.35 and Bakersfield's Ariana Mariscal third at 2:15.37. Grand Canyon's Stephan Bullard won the 800-meter title on the men's side with a time of 1:52.27. Texas-Pan American's Martin Casse was second at 1:52.27 and Idaho's Blake Gerling third at 1:53.46.

Grand Canyon's Shavine Hodges won the women's 200-meter dash with a time of 23.88. New Mexico State's Alishia Perkins was second at 24.42 and Idaho's Karlene Hurrel was third at 24.52. The men's 200-meter dash title went to Grand Canyon's Lance Parker (21.40). Utah Valley's Nicholas Taylor placed second at 21.57 and Idaho's Jesse Villines third at 21.70.

Kansas City's Courtney Frerichs won the women's 3000-meter run with a time of 9:35.89. Utah Valley's Ivie Gonsalves was second at 10:02.35 and Idaho's Holly Stanton third at 10:07.22. Grand Canyon's Yler Vandyke won the men's 3000-meter run with a time of 8:34.08. Kansas City's Bryce Miller was second at 8:34.15 and Seattle U's Collin Overbay third at 8:40.08.

Grand Canyon won the women's 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:44.13. New Mexico State placed second at 3:46.28 and Kansas City was third at 3:46.65. Grand Canyon also won the men's 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:11.36. Idaho placed second at 3:12.81 and Kansas City was third at 3:16.29.

The Grand Canyon men and the Kansas City women are in the lead after day two of the WAC Indoor Track and Field Championships. For the men, GCU is out in front with 66.50 points, followed by Utah Valley and Idaho tied with 50 points each. Kansas City is fourth with 25 points, Seattle U is in fifth with 18 points, Texas-Pan American is sixth with 17.50 points and Chicago State is seventh with six points.

On the women's side, Kansas City compiled a two-day score of 57 points followed by Idaho in second with 53 points. Grand Canyon stands in third with 48 points. Utah Valley, after seven scored events totaled 33 points, placing them fourth. New Mexico State currently holds the fifth spot with 19 points and Seattle U is in sixth with nine points. Texas-Pan American is in seventh with eight points, Chicago State is eighth with five points and Bakersfield is ninth with two points.

Day two of the championships picked back up with the conclusion of the men's heptathlon. Grand Canyon's Michael Bolligar won the 'Lopes first-ever WAC individual WAC title as he scored 4,662 points to claim the heptathlon title.

Idaho's Kyle Rothwell claimed the championship's first field event title as the senior won the men's weight throw with a toss of 59-11.75. Rothwell claimed the gold, while Texas-Pan American's Trey Taylor won silver with a throw of 59-4.75 and Kansas City's Kris Leverette won bronze with a toss of 58-00.25.

Chicago State's Kory Jackson won the men's long jump title with a mark of 22-11.75. Utah Valley's Michael McPherson placed second (22-09.25) and Idaho's Jason Lerentz was third with a jump of 22-01.00.

Utah Valley's Ryle Williams took the men's high jump title with a mark of 6-11.00, followed by Seattle U's Shaddye Melu in second (6-09.75) and Idaho's Emmanuel Panchol in third (6-08.75).

Grand Canyon swept the women's pole vault as Lauren Graham claimed the first women's individual title with a height of 13-01.50. Teammate Jennifer Rolphy took the silver with a mark of 12-09.50, while Amy Hop took the bronze with a height of 12-05.50.

The women's triple jump title went to Grand Canyon's Jessica Yates, who recorded a mark of 39-08.75. Idaho's Faith Eruwa took second (39-06.50) and Grand Canyon's Andrea Olstead placed third (37-05.75).

Kansas City's Kelsey Benoit won the women's shot put title with a championship mark of 46-00.50. Idaho's Adara Winder placed second at 45-11.75 and Kansas City's Dahlia Dyson was third with a mark of 45-10.50.

The majority of the running events on Thursday were prelimary races to qualify for Friday's finals. However, the 5,000-meter and distance medley events both claimed champions. Kansas City's Courtney Frerichs won the 5,000-meter women's gold with a time of 17:45.89. Utah Valley's Ivie Gonsalves placed second. Idaho's Holly Stanton and Alycia Butterworth placed third and fourth with times of 18:07.93 and 18:08.73, respectively. Grand Canyon's Tyler Vandyke claimed the men's 5,000-meter title with a tme of 15:08.42. Kansas City's Nathan Keown was second with a time of 15:11.01 and Utah Valley's Macy Butterfield secured bronze with 15:15.52.

Idaho won the women's distance medley with a time of 12:11.65, while Utah Valley's men won the distance medley on the men's side with 10:20.29.

Tomorrow's action begins at 10:30 a.m. MT, starting with the women's weight throw followed by the remaining field events. The running events will begin at 1:05 p.m. and conclude with the women's 4x400-meter relay, slated to begin at 3:30 p.m.

The Utah Valley women lead the three-day Western Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, after the conclusion of Wednesday's action from the Kibbie Dome. After the pentathlon, which was the only event completed after the first day of competition, the Wolverines lead with 23 points, followed by New Mexico State in second place with 10 points and Kansas City in third with three points on the women's side.

The first day of competition consisted of the women's pentathlon and the men's heptathlon. On the women's side, New Mexico State senior Deserae Cota beat out Utah Valley senior Ali Shields for the pentathlon gold, 3,365-3,234. Utah Valley's Ashli Schulz and Gately Garnett finished in a tie with 3,094 points, but Schulz won the tie-breaker due to events won. Utah Valley's Mindy Stepel placed fifth with 3,020 points.

With four of the seven men's heptathlon events complete, Grand Canyon's Michael Bolligar is in the lead with 2,796 points. Bolligar won three of the four events on Wednesay, including the 60-meter dash (7.29) long jump (21-02) and the shot put (39-9.25). Bolligar's teammate Akintunde Adeyemi won the high jump with a mark of 6-05.

The heptathlon's three remaining events will take place tomorrow, Feb. 27, starting at 10:30 a.m. PT, with the 60-meter hurdles. Tomorrow's championship events get underway as the field events begin at 1 p.m. PT, followed by the running events at 4 p.m. PT.
