DENVER – Texas-Pan American’s Martin Casse and Grand Canyon’s Kevin Lashley have been named the Western Athletic Conference men’s track and field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for Jan. 27-Feb. 2.
Casse, a senior from Toulouse, France (Lycee-Toulouse Lautrec), posted two top-three finishes at the Masked Rider Open in Lubbock, Texas. Casse finished in first place in the 1000-meter run while setting a new program record with a time of 2:27.38. He finished two seconds ahead of the second place finisher. In the 800m, Casse finished in third place while setting another program record with a time of 1:52.14. The 800m time is the fastest in the WAC this season.
Lashley, a senior from North Hollywood, Calif. (Moorpark Community College), won the long jump at the Ed Jacoby Invitational after recording a leap of 7.20 meters. That mark is the third-best in the conference this season. Lashley also took second in the triple jump with a jump of 14.59 meters, the second-best mark in the WAC this season.
