DENVER – Grand Canyon’s Shavine Hodges and Seattle U’s Mandie Maddux have been named the Western Athletic Conference women’s track and field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for Jan. 27-Feb. 2.
Hodges, a senior from Montego Bay, Jamaica (Colbourne College), won both the 60-meter dash (7.44 seconds) and the 200-meter dash (24.09 seconds) at the Ed Jacoby Invitational in Boise, Idaho. Hodges’ time in the 200m was the fastest in the WAC this season, topping her own previous mark. She was also part of the 4x400-meter relay team which finished first with a time of 3:46.73, the best time in the WAC this season.
Maddux, a sophomore from Gresham, Ore. (Sam Barlow HS), put together the second-best pentathlon score in the WAC this year with 3,114 points at the UW Invitational. She started the day by running 10.01 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles. She cleared 1.60 meters (5-3) in the high jump and posted a top throw of 10.25m (33-7.5) in the shot put. After posting a top leap of 4.64m (15-2.75) in the long jump, Maddux concluded the day with a time of 2:32.85 in the 800m, finishing in 12th place overall. Besides her placement in the pentathlon, she is also currently tied for second in the WAC in the high jump due to her performance.
