CHICAGO STATE
Chicago State went 1-1 on the weekend in two home matches, falling 5-2 to Utah State and knocking off South Dakota 5-2 ... Sabrine Navarro has won as many singles match this season as she did all of last season ... Carynne Lloyd has won two singles matches in a row for the first time since last March when she won three straight matches (Mar. 12-16) ... freshman Faith Huckabee leads the team in singles victories with eight ... she’s won five out of her last six singles matches including four in a row after losing the previous three ... this week, Chicago State hosts two matches on Saturday, playing SIUE in the morning and Dayton in the afternoon.
GRAND CANYON
Grand Canyon played its first DI match at New Mexico on Jan. 31, falling 4-3 ... the Antelopes dropped the doubles point, despite having match points that could have given them the critical point ... junior Priscilla Annoual won her opening D-I match with a third-set match tiebreak win over the Lobos’ Michaela Bezdickova, who is ranked in a tie for 18th in the ITA Mountain Regional Rankings ... Annoual teamed with Tatum Prudhomme and just missed knocking off the team of Bezdickova/Blankers, who are ranked seventh in the ITA Mountain Regional Rankings ... this week, the ‘Lopes travel to Tucson, Ariz. for two matches, Friday at Arizona and Saturday vs. UTEP.
IDAHO
The Vandals have won three consecutive matches after defeating Eastern Washington (6-1) and Gonzaga (6-1) over the weekend ... Victoria Lozano went a perfect 4-0 on the week competing at the No. 1 spot in both singles and doubles ... Lozano won a three-setter at No. 1 singles in Idaho’s 6-1 win over Eastern Washington, and cruised to a 6-3, 6-1 win the next day at Gonzaga ... Lozano improved to 3-1 in singles and 3-1 in doubles on the season, and the Vandals improved to 3-1 overall ... this week, the Vandals host WAC foe Seattle U on Saturday ... a scheduled match against Lewis-Clark State has been postponed.
KANSAS CITY
The ‘Roos went 1-1 on the weekend, defeating Creighton 4-3 and falling 4-0 against Wichita State ... Gabby Pintos won the clinching match in a tiebreaker, giving the ‘Roos a 4-3 victory over Creighton ... UMKC was down 3-0 in the dual, and came all the way back to take the victory 4-3 ... this week, Kansas City will have three matches ... UMKC hosts Drake on Friday, before travelling to Lawrence, Kan. on Saturday to face Eastern Michigan and then Kansas on Sunday.
NEW MEXICO STATE
New Mexico State opened the 2014 dual season with two losses in Tucson, Ariz., falling to Arizona, 0-4, and San Francisco, 5-2 ... against San Francisco, Annemieke Witte took her match to three sets before beating out Milica Hadzi-Tanovic 6-3, 4-6, 10-4 at the fifth position ... Brittany Collens also went three sets for her win at court six, coming out with a 3-6, 7-5, 10-4 win ... NM State now heads to Las Vegas, Nev., for three matches over the weekend ... first, the Aggies meet host UNLV on Friday ... the team then meets UC Riverside on the neutral court on Saturday at before ending the weekend against Pacific on Sunday.
SEATTLE U
The Seattle University women’s tennis team dropped three matches over the weekend, falling to Idaho State (4-3), Weber State (4-3) and Boise State (7-0) ... Kelli Woodman earned two wins on the weekend, claiming a point at both the No. 1 and No. 2 spots ... the Redhawks first two losses on the weekend came down to the final singles set, with the match at Weber State decided by just two points in the final singles set ... this week, the Redhawks are again busy, with five road matches in four days, beginning with Lewis-Clark State on Thursday ... SU then travels to Gonzaga on Friday, both Idaho and Washington State on Saturday, before wrapping up the weekend at Eastern Washington on Sunday.
TEXAS-PAN AMERICAN
The Broncs kicked off their home schedule with a 6-1 win over the Prairie View A&M Panthers on Sunday ... freshman Katia Stavroulaki picked up her first collegiate career victory after she defeated Payton Gore in No. 4 singles ... senior Wanda Beguelin improved to 2-0 in singles on the season as she defeated Sydney Thomas in No. 3 singles ... the Broncs hit the road for a six-match road trip ... they open the road trip at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Feb. 10.
WAC TOURNAMENT TO BE HELD IN LAS CRUCES
The 2014 WAC Tennis Tournament will be held April 25-27 in Las Cruces, N.M. The WAC conference championship will be up for grabs, as last year’s champions, San Jose State, has since departed the WAC.
