Seattle U 8, Cal Poly 4
The Redhawks opened the season with an 8-4 win over Cal Poly in the Kajikawa Classic Friday. Jenny Hurst was 4-for-4 with two doubles, a home run and three RBI, while Bubba Morrow was 3-for-4 with a homer, three runs scored and three driven in. Richelle Ashburn earned the win, allowing one run on five hits over 5.0 innings.
San Jose State 11, Seattle U 7
The Redhawks fell 11-7 to San Jose State in their second game of the day. Five Seattle U players had multi-hit games, led by Hayley Beckstrom, who was 2-for-3 with a homer, one run scored and three RBI.
East Carolina 8, Grand Canyon 4
The Antelopes fell 8-4 to East Carolina in their first game of the BYU/UVU Red Dirt Classic Friday. Nicole Newbury hit a two-run homer, while Lauren Regester was 2-for-3 and scored a run.
Grand Canyon 5, Utah State 3
The 'Lopes picked up their first Division I win later in the day, defeating Utah State 5-3, depsite committing four errors. Lauren Regester hit a three-run homer, while Claire Zampini and Haley Walker drove in one run each. Kailey Regester earned the complete-game victory, allowing three runs on five hits and striking out two.
Kansas City 8, Alabama State 0 (5)
The Kangaroos opened the season with a five-inning 8-0 win over Alabama State at the Lion Classic Friday. Katie Kelley threw a complete-game one-hitter, striking out seven, and was also 2-for-2 with three runs and one RBI at the plate. Marlee Maples drove in four runs, while Alexandra Friloux was 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Southeastern Louisiana 13, Kansas City 0 (5)
The 'Roos fell 13-0 in five innings to host Southeastern Louisiana later in the day. Brooke Parker had both Kansas City hits in the loss.
Pittsburgh 4, at Bakersfield 3
The Roadrunners opened the season with a 4-3 loss to Pittsburgh in the first half of a doubleheader Friday. Karissa Veiga and Madison Bundy both went 2-for-3 on the game, while Amy Ricciardi drove in two runs.
Pittsburgh 7, at Bakersfield 5
In the nightcap, Bakersfield fell 7-5 to the Panthers. Veiga and Cassidy Santiago were 2-for-4, while Karysn Guzman hit a two-run homer.
Idaho State 7, Utah Valley 3
The Wolverines committed three errors and gave up six unearned runs to open the season with a 7-3 loss to Idaho State at the BYU/UVU Red Dirt Classic Friday. Kelli Fox was 2-for-2, while Hailey Kofler hit a two-run homer.
Florida State 11, New Mexico State 0 (5)
The Aggies opened the season with an 11-0 five-inning loss to Florida State in their first game of the Hotel Encanto Classic Friday. Chelsea Dohrwardt and Lacey Rother accounted for the two NM State hits.
New Mexico State 6, Saint Mary’s 4
The Aggies defeated Saint Mary's 6-4 in their last game of the day. Staci Rodriguez and Fiana Finau both went 2-for-3, with Finau driving in two runs and Rodriguez one. Makayla McAdams earned the win, allowing three runs on six hits over 5.0 innings, while striking out four.
