Kansas State 9, Grand Canyon 4

Abilene, TX-(GCU Media Relations) The Grand Canyon University baseball team (4-5) opened the Bourland-Ardoin Classic today with a 9-4 loss to Kansas State University (2-7) at Crutcher Scott Field in Abilene, Tex. The four-team, three-day tournament is being hosted by Abilene Christian University, who the Antelopes were slated to play in a three-game series this weekend before poor weather in the Midwest altered the schedule and forced the Wildcats and Bears to head to Texas.

Kansas State won the 2013 Big 12 Conference crown and advanced to the Super Regional round of the NCAA Tournament before being eliminated by Oregon State.

Nebraska-Omaha 13, Chicago State 10

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. –(CSU Media Relations) Despite scoring 10 runs and having 16 hits, the Chicago State Cougars fell to the Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks 13-10 at the Snow Bird Classic on Friday (Feb. 28) in Port Charlotte, Fla.

The two teams combined for 41 hits in the game and 23 runs, a day after playing a 2-1 contest. The Mavericks would get the scoring started in the bottom of the first inning and would proceed to score in five of their eight at bats.

Central Arkansas 6, North Dakota 1

Illinois State 5, North Dakota 1

CONWAY, Ark.--(UND Media Relations) North Dakota finally opened its 2014 schedule Friday with a pair of games at Central Arkansas. UND fell 6-1 in the opener against the host school and dropped a 5-1 decision to Illinois State in the nightcap.

"The guys played hard today," UND head baseball coach Jeff Dodson said. "We gave up some unearned runs and we took ourselves out of some innings on the basepaths today. It was our first time being on the field for the first time this spring and we need to have a quick leaning curve. I was impressed with our pitching staff and our bullpen was good in key spots. We just didn't come up big in the clutch."

BYU 4, Seattle U 2

St. George, UT-(SU Media Relations)Seattle University fell behind early in both games of Friday’s doubleheader and could not produce enough offense to come from behind, as BYU swept the twinbill, 8-2 and 4-2, in collegiate baseball action at Bruce Hurst Field.

In the bottom of the second inning of game one, Kelton Caldwell led off with a single, and Bret Lopez followed with a double down the left field line. Caldwell scored on a groundout hit by Dillon Robinson, and Lopez would pick up the second run of the inning on a groundout hit by Dallen Reber.

Texas-Pan American 4, Lamar 1

EDINBURG –(UTPA Media Relations) The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs baseball team scored three runs in the sixth inning to come from behind and beat the Lamar University Cardinals 4-1 on Friday at Vincent-Beck Stadium.

The Broncs (6-4) were held to two walks and a hit batsman through the first five innings by Chase Angelle (1-1). With one out in the sixth, however, junior Jesus Garcia reached on an infield-single, and then, after a fielder's choice, senior Alberto Morales singled. An error allowed the runners to move to second and third, setting up a two-run single by freshman Victor Garcia Jr. Senior Dillon Engelhart followed with an RBI-double to put the Broncs up 3-1.

New Mexico 5, Northern Colorado 2

ALBUQUERQUE –(NC Media Relations) Freshman Jake Ekman scored twice for the Northern Colorado baseball team, but he was the only one able to cross home plate as the Bears dropped a 5-2 decision at New Mexico in the first game of a four-game series on Friday night.

The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday with the first game slated for a 1:00 pm start.

Oakland 8, New Mexico State 3

LAS CRUCES, N.M. –(NMSU Media Relations) The New Mexico State baseball team fell to Oakland in game one of the four-game series on Friday, Feb. 28, 2014, 8-3. The Aggies are now 6-3 on the season, while Oakland improves to 2-3 overall.
The Aggies committed four errors in the game that led to six unearned runs for Oakland. Derek Umphres led the Aggies at the plate with three hits and an RBI. Kristoffer Koerper added one hit and scored two runs. Kyle Kilgore added the other Aggie hit on the night.
