DENVER – Utah Valley’s Mike Fogt and Ryle Williams have been named the Western Athletic Conference men’s track and field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for March 3-9.
Fogt, a junior from Belmont, Mass. (Lone Peak HS), won the 100-meter dash before taking second in the 200 at the UNLV Track Classic this past weekend. Fogt, who is the younger brother of Chris Fogt, a bronze medalist for Team USA in the four-man bobsled in Sochi, won the 100 in 10.98 seconds and placed second in the 200 with a time of 22.26. Fogt’s times in the two races currently rank him 15th the 200 and 16th in the 100, nationally, for the outdoor season.
Williams, a freshman from St. Joseph, Mo. (Savannah HS), set a new school record for the Wolverines in the high jump at UNLV’s Track Classic on Saturday, as he won the event by clearing 2.15-meters or 7’-0.50”. Williams’ impressive mark currently leads the nation in outdoor competition. The freshman now holds both the indoor and outdoor high jump records for Utah Valley.
Other Field Nominees: Bryan Wilmert, Bakersfield.
