DENVER – Utah Valley’s Michael McPherson and Bakersfield's Bryan Wilmert have been named the Western Athletic Conference men’s track and field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for March 10-16.
McPherson, a junior from Parker, Colo. (Chaparral Parker HS), placed third in 100-meter dash with a time of 10.85, fourth in the 110-meter hurdles (14.91) and fifth in the long jump (6.98m/22’-11”) at Cal State Fullerton’s Ben Brown Invitational. He also competed on the 4x400-meter relay squad that finished in 11th place out of 23 teams with a time of 3:22.89. The times that McPherson recorded in the 100m, 110m hurdles and 4x400m relay, as well as his mark in the long jump, all lead the WAC. He also currently ranks 13th nationally in the long jump and 25th in the 100m dash.
Wilmert, a junior from Bakersfield, Calif. (Liberty HS), placed second in a pool of 42 throwers at the Ben Brown Invitational. Wilmert’s throw of 60.05m (197’-00”) placed him in a tie with Jason Henry (1999) for seventh overall all-time in Bakersfield history. His throw was good enough for fifth in the nation so far this season and leads the WAC.
