Chicago State went 2-2 during a four-match trip to Orlando, Fla. ... the Cougars picked up 7-0 victories over Penn State Berks and Wisconsin Lutheran, but fell to Bethune-Cookman and Palm Beach Atlantic ... Mario Noboa went 3-1 in No. 3 singles play and 2-1 in No. 1 doubles ... Noboa has 12 singles victories to lead the team and is tied for second on the team with seven doubles victories. ... this week, the Cougars host St. Louis on Friday.
GRAND CANYON
Grand Canyon was off last week and had a match against Northern Arizona postponed due to wind ... GCU went 1-1 in its last action March 8-9, defeating Montana, 4-3, and then falling at Nevada, 6-1, ... the loss to Nevada snapped a five-match winning streak for the ‘Lopes, but the ‘Lopes 7-5 record is still tops in the WAC ... Ben Collomb has won a team-best seven singles matches (7-3 overall) and has combined with Alexander Roggenkamp to go 8-2 in doubles ... this week, the ‘Lopes are back in action with three matches in Las Vegas, Nev., facing Southern Utah on Saturday, Seattle U on Sunday and Idaho State on Monday.
IDAHO
The Vandals travelled to California for two matches, falling at Pacific, 5-2, and defeating Sacramento State, 4-1 ... Idaho picked up the doubles point in both matches ... Cesar Torres went 2-0 at the No. 5 singles position ... this weekend, Idaho is off ... the Vandals are back in action on March 28 against Seattle U.
KANSAS CITY
Kansas City fell in three matches in Wichita, Kan., losing to Lamar, Wichita State and Air Force ... the ‘Roos won the doubles point against Lamar and Air Force, but couldn’t win more than two singles matches in any contest ... Uldis Gaismins went 2-1 at No. 5 singles ... Tomas Patino picked up a win at No. 1 singles over Air Force ... this week, Kansas City is off ... the ‘Roos return to action April 4 against St. Louis.
NEW MEXICO STATE
New Mexico State went 1-2 last week, sandwhiching losses at UC Davis, 5-2, and Santa Clara, 4-3, around a 5-2 win over Sacramento State ... Patrick Pfister went 2-1 in singles play and 3-0 in doubles play during the weekend with the Aggies ... Pfister won his matches at the No. 5 spot against Sacramento State and Santa Clara in three sets, while losing just his first singles match of the weekend against UC Davis ... this week, the Aggies host in-state rival New Mexico on Saturday.
SEATTLE U
Seattle U went 1-1 last weekend in Reno, Nev., falling 7-0 to Nevada and defeating UMBC, 4-3 ... Zach Kosanke earned the win vs. UMBC for the Redhawks, winning the final singles match … Will Topp and Kosanke earned a doubles win vs. UMBC ... this week, the Redhawks will travel to Las Vegas, Nev. for four matches ... Seattle faces Mesa Community College on Saturday, Grand Canyon on Sunday, Southern Utah on Monday, and Idaho State on Tuesday.
TEXAS-PAN AMERICAN
The Broncs are coming off of a road trip where they fell to Nicholls State, 4-3, and Rice, 6-0 ... both matches were at neutral sites ... freshman Juan Cruz Soria leads the team with six wins in singles competition while also adding five wins in doubles competition ... the Broncs close out their home schedule on Friday when they host the University of the Incarnate Word ... UTPA then travels to face UTSA on Saturday.
WAC TOURNAMENT TO BE HELD IN LAS CRUCES
The 2014 WAC Tennis Tournament will be held April 25-27 in Las Cruces, N.M. The WAC conference championship will be up for grabs, as last year’s champions, Denver, has since departed the WAC.
