Chicago State 8, Lehigh 1

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. –(CSU Media Relations) A sparkling pitching performance by junior starter Andrew Wellwerts (Cedar Lake, Ind./Hanover Central) helped Chicago State baseball to an 8-1 win over Lehigh on Saturday (March 1). The win gave Chicago State a 3-1 record at the Snowbird Classic this week.

Wellwerts didn't allow a run on eight hits over 6.1 innings. He walked just one batter and struck out five. Wellwerts is now 1-2 on the season. Lehigh starter Nick Stephens is 1-1 on the year after giving up four runs in five innings.

Illinois State 4, North Dakota 0

Central Arkansas 4, North Dakota 3

CONWAY, Ark.--(UND Media Relations) UND dropped a pair of games Saturday, falling in heart-breaking fashion in the opener, 4-3 before a 4-0 loss in the nightcap. Freshman Zach Muckenhirn was the highlight in a solid collegiate debut.

"Muckenhirn threw great in game one," UND head coach Jeff Dodson said. "He will push to be in the conference rotation in two weeks at Utah Valley. Pleased with the effort from our guys but we have to keep getting better."

Kansas State 11, Grand Canyon 1

Abilene Christian 3, Grand Canyon 2 (10)

Abilene, TX-(GCU Media Relations) The Grand Canyon University baseball team (4-7) dropped a pair of games today at the Bourland-Ardoin Classic, falling 11-1 to Kansas State (3-7) and 3-2 in 10 innings to host Abilene Christian (6-2) at Crutcher Scott Field in Abilene, Tex. The game versus Abilene Christian was the first extra-inning contest of the young season for the Antelopes.

In the day's first game, GCU starter Andrew Naderer was charged with the loss after allowing six runs on six hits and five walks with three strikeouts over 7.0 innings. Naderer is now 1-2 on the season.

New Mexico 17, Northern Colorado 1

ALBUQUERQUE –(NC Media Relations) In what was supposed to be a doubleheader, the weather wreaked havoc all day long, forcing a schedule change and bitter conditions for the Northern Colorado and New Mexico baseball teams.

The Lobos (6-3-1) won Saturday's game 17-1 and the two teams will dry out and warm up for a doubleheader on Sunday beginning at 11.

Oakland 14, New Mexico State 11

Oakland 7, New Mexico State 3

LAS CRUCES, N.M. –(NMSU Media Relations) The New Mexico State baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader against Oakland on Saturday. The Aggies fell 14-11 in game one and 7-3 in game two on the day. NM State goes to 6-5 on the season, while Oakland improves to 4-3 overall.
NM State was outhit 18-10 during game one of the doubleheader. Billy Conard made the start for the Aggies but could not get out of the fourth after allowing eight runs.

San Francisco 9, Sacramento State 1

SACRAMENTO, Calif. –(SAC Media Relations) San Francisco scored in each of the first three innings to take an early 4-0 lead and extended to 8-0 in the sixth en route to a 9-1 win over Sacramento State on Saturday at John Smith Field.

San Francisco (4-5) jumped on Hornet starter Ty Nichols early with a run in the first inning, a solo homerun by Bob Cruikshank and an RBI single in the second inning, and a run off three hits in the third inning. Sacramento State (5-5) did have four hits through the first three innings but cold not push a run across against USF starter Abe Bobb.

Lamar 5, Texas-Pan American 3

BEAUMONT –(UTPA Media Relations) In a game that was scoreless after six innings, both team combined for eight runs on six hits over the final two and a half innings as the University of Texas-Pan American Broncs baseball team fell to the Lamar University Cardinals 5-3 on Saturday at Vincent-Beck Stadium.

The Broncs (6-5) got on the board in the top of the seventh against Cardinals (7-4) reliever Jayson McKinley. Junior Evan Mason reached on an error and moved to second on a groundout. After a bunt single by junior Jesus Garcia put runners on the corners, sophomore PSJA alum Bryan Ramirez executed a squeeze play, allowing Mason to score on the sacrifice bunt.

Pacific 5, Utah Valley 2

Pacific 4, Utah Valley 2

STOCKTON, Calif. -- (UVU Media Relations) Valley baseball dropped both ends of a Saturday doubleheader at Pacific, 5-2 and 4-2. The teams are scheduled for a another twin bill on Sunday beginning at 10 a.m. PT/11 a.m. MT.

In the first game, Pacific starter Mike Hager limited UVU to two hits in 8.0 shutout innings. The Wolverines were able to break through with two runs on an RBI double from Sean Moysh in the ninth inning. Taylor Murphy had three hits to lead the Tigers (6-5), who finished with 11 hits in the opener.

UC Riverside 9, Bakersfield 6

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.—(CSUB Media Relations) Trailing 9-0 entering the ninth Bakersfield nearly came all the way back, but UC Riverside (5-4) defeated the Roadrunners (4-5) 9-6.

A Nick Vitler three-run home run highlighted a four-run Highlander outburst in the top of the third. Vitler smacked a solo blast with one out in the top of the fifth. UC Riverside scored one more in the inning to chase ‘Runner starter Taylor Aikenhead (Lancaster, Calif., Bakersfield College). The Highlanders added one in the seventh. Vitler singled in his final two runs (for six on the day) in the eighth.
