DENVER – New Mexico State’s Jenna Banegas and Texas-Pan American’s Leocajuan Williams have been named the Western Athletic Conference women’s track and field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for March 17-23.
Banegas, a junior from Las Cruces, N.M. (Mayfield HS), posted two personal bests at the UTEP Springtime meet over the weekend. Banegas finished fourth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.76 and eighth in the 200m with a time of 24.39. In the 4x100-meter relay, Banegas helped her team finish second, posting a time of 46.23. Her time in the 100m is the 16th best in the West Region and is the best in the WAC.
Williams, a junior from The Woodlands, Texas (The Woodlands College Park), finished in first place in the triple jump and a second place finish in the long jump at the Cactus Cup meet in Kingsville, Texas. Williams reached11.09m in the triple jump and hit 5.63m in the long jump. The long jump mark is first in the WAC and 39th in the West Region, while her triple jump mark is fourth in the WAC.
