ATLANTA, Ga. – Bakersfield's Tyonna Outland and Seattle U's Kacie Sowell have been named to the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) All-Region 7 Team.
Outland was selected first team All-WAC and was named to the league's All-Defensive team. She finished the season ranked second in the WAC in scoring (20.7), fourth in minutes per game (34.77), sixth in steals (1.65), eighth in free throw shooting (77.2) and 13th in rebounding (6.3). She posted five double-doubles on the year, had three games with 30 or more points and led the WAC with 18 games in which she scored 20 or more points. Outland was a four-time WAC Player of the Week.
Sowell was a first team All-WAC honoree after ranking third in the conference in rebounding (9.3) and field goal percentage (58.1), sixth in scoring (14.7) and 10th in blocks (0.63). She posted 12 double-doubles on the year, had eight games with 20 or more points and pulled down 10 or more rebounds 14 times on the season.
The two are among four honorees in the region and 52 honorees nationwide that are nominees for the 2014 WBCA Division I Coaches’ All-America Team, which will be announced at 1:10 p.m. CT Saturday April 5, during NCAA® Women’s Final Four® Super Saturday festivities in Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena.
