Seattle, Wash.-(SU Media Relations) The Seattle University baseball team was able to drive in runs at key times during Friday’s Western Athletic Conference doubleheader, sweeping the UTPA Broncs, 6-5 and 4-3, at Triton Field on the campus of Edmonds Community College.

In the first game of the doubleheader, Chase Fields (Ontario, Ore.) was hit by a pitch to lead off the bottom of the first inning. He would steal second base and score on a double to left-center field by Landon Cray (Chimacum, Wash.). Brian Olson (Black Diamond, Wash.) followed with his own double down the right field line to drive in Cray.

Bakersfield 10, Utah Valley 4

OREM, Utah—(CSUB Media Relations)Taylor Aikenhead (Sr., Lancaster, Calif., Bakersfield College) and Sergio Luna (Jr., Los Angeles, Calif., East LA College) combined for a school record 14 strikeouts as Bakersfield (11-13, 4-3 WAC) defeated Utah Valley (7-18, 1-4 WAC) 10-4 Friday night.

RBI singles from Oscar Sanay (Sr., Chula Vista, Calif., Bonita Vista HS) and Ross Hough (Jr., Bakersfield, Calif., Central Arizona College) in the top of the second got the ‘Runners on the board. Bakersfield added to the lead in the fifth after getting RBI’s from Mylz Jones (So., Palmdale, Calif., Paraclete HS) and Max Carter (Fr., Bakersfield, Calif., Stockdale HS).

Sacramento State 8, New Mexico State 2

LAS CRUCES, N.M. –(SAC Media Relations) Sacramento State scored three runs in the first inning and never looked back as junior Brennan Leitao threw six strong innings and the Hornets totaled 11 hits and seven walks in an 8-2 win on Friday night in Las Cruces.

Sacramento State (14-11, 4-0 WAC) posted its sixth consecutive win, the longest winning streak the team has had since 2009. The 4-0 start to WAC play is the best in the program's 13 years in the conference and the team won its road conference opener for the first time since 2008. New Mexico State (10-15, 2-2 WAC) has lost its last three home games against Sacramento State.

Grand Canyon 2, Chicago State 1 (11)

Phoenix, Ariz.-(GCU Media Relations) In a thrilling come from behind win, the Grand Canyon University baseball team (12-11, 3-1 WAC) came out victorious in a 2-1, 11-inning affair against visiting Chicago State (9-11, 0-1 WAC) in a Western Athletic Conference matchup tonight at Brazell Stadium in Phoenix, Ariz.

It was the longest game for the 'Lopes this season and their longest since also playing 11 innings in an 8-9 loss at Tampa on March 10, 2012.
