DENVER – Texas-Pan American’s Mathew Charles and Grand Canyon’s Charlotte Jaengkit have been named the Western Athletic Conference Golfers of the Week for Feb. 24-March 2.
Charles, a junior from Corpus Christi, Texas (Carroll HS), tied his career low with his second round 4-under par 68 at the Moe O’Brien Intercollegiate in Lake Charles, La. He now has recorded nine straight rounds of 78 or lower. His three-round score of 211 (-5) is his best score of the season. The 5-under par mark for the tournament tied him for third place and helped his team to a second place finish.
Jaengkit, a junior from Bangkok, Thailand (Antelope Valley Christian), tied for first following three rounds at the GCU Invitational and won individual medalist honors following a three-hole playoff. She had the second-most birdies (9) of the 84-player field, six of which came in the second round to better her first round score by six strokes. Jaengkit helped Grand Canyon finish fourth of 15 teams. Jaengkit also tied for second at the Red Rocks Invitational after carding a 2-under-par 142, just one stroke out of first place. It was her seventh top-10 finish in eight tournaments this season as her team finished fourth.
