DENVER – Texas-Pan American’s Juan Cruz Soria and Grand Canyon’s Tatum Prudhomme have been named the Western Athletic Conference men’s and women’s Tennis Athletes of the Week, respectively, for Feb. 24-March 2.
Soria, a freshman from San Juan, Argentina (Escuela Modelo de San Juan), went a perfect 4-0 on the weekend, winning both his singles and both his doubles matches, helping the Broncs go 1-1 against Grand Canyon and Kansas City. He now has five wins in singles competition while playing all of them at No. 1 singles. He also has five wins in doubles competition while teaming with Alejandro Sanoja (1-2), Mauricio Fosado (2-0) and Chetan Panditi (2-1). He has won three of his last four doubles matches.
Prudhomme, a freshman from Glendale, Ariz. (Connections Academy), went 4-0 combined in singles and doubles this weekend to help Grand Canyon to wins over Texas-Pan American and Kansas City. She swept her match against Kansas City's Racquel Argenal, 6-0, 6-0, and added a three-set win over UTPA's Wanda Beguelin. The 16-year old is 6-2 overall, having won her last six matches in a row.
