CHICAGO STATE
Chicago State dropped Quincy University, 7-0, to pick up its initial win of the season on March 1 ... Mario Noboa has won three straight singles matches for the first time since Sept. 6-28 of the fall season and has nine singles victories this year after winning just six all of last year ... this week, the Cougars travel to face Louisville on Friday and Northern Kentucky on Saturday.
GRAND CANYON
Grand Canyon improved to 6-3 and has won four straight after defeating Texas-Pan American, 4-3, and Kansas City, 4-1, last weekend ... Ben Collomb improved to 6-2 overall in singles play, has won three straight matches, and is 6-1 when playing the No. 5 position ... Collomb and teammate Alexander Roggenkamp are 6-2 in doubles, 6-1 when playing at No. 3 ... this week, Grand Canyon will travel to Reno, Nev. for two matches, Friday against Montana and Saturday against Nevada.
IDAHO
The Vandals went 0-2 last weekend, falling 4-3 at Utah State on Friday and 7-0 at BYU on Saturday ... Idaho got singles wins from Jose Bendeck at No. 2, Cristobal Ramos Salazar at No. 3 and Cesar Torres at No. 5, but it wasn’t enough for the win against Utah State ... this week, the Vandals are off.
KANSAS CITY
Kansas City went 0-2 on a trip to Edinburg, Texas, falling to Grand Canyon, 4-1, on Saturday and Texas-Pan American, 4-0, on Sunday ... the Roos won the doubles point against Grand Canyon, claiming wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 spot ... this week, Kansas City is off.
NEW MEXICO STATE
New Mexico State was off last week ... NM State went 1-1 in its last action, from Feb. 22-23, defeating Abilene Christian, 6-1, and falling to Arizona, 4-2 ... Germain Degardin and Patrick Pfister each won both of their matches on the week ... this week, the Aggies are off ... the Aggies are back in action on Saturday against UTSA and on Sunday against UT Arlington.
SEATTLE U
Seattle U was off last weekend ... SU went 0-2 in its last action, dropping a doubleheader to Washington, 6-0, in both matches ... this week, the Redhawks have two matches against Montana State in Eugene, Ore., one on Friday, March 7 and one on Saturday, March 8.
TEXAS-PAN AMERICAN
The Broncs went 1-1 last weekend, falling to Grand Canyon, 4-3, and defeating Kansas City, 4-0 ... freshman Juan Cruz Soria earned the first-ever WAC Tennis Athlete of the Week for the men’s tennis program ... he Broncs snapped their seven-match losing streak after defeating Kansas City 4-0 on March 2 ... UTPA is off this week and will be back in action on March 14 on the road to face Nicholls State.
WAC TOURNAMENT TO BE HELD IN LAS CRUCES
The 2014 WAC Tennis Tournament will be held April 25-27 in Las Cruces, N.M. The WAC conference championship will be up for grabs, as last year’s champions, Denver, has since departed the WAC.
