2014 WAC Women's Basketball Tournament Bracket
Idaho 70, Kansas City 63
The Vandals held on to defeat Kansas City 70-63 Saturday at the Cowan Spectrum, With the victory, Idaho improves to 22-8 overall and 15-1 in WAC play. The Kangaroos drop to 11-18 on the season and 7-9 in the WAC.
The Vandals shot 37 percent from the field, 30 percent from three-point range and 71 percent from the free throw line on the game. UMKC connected on 37 percent from the floor, 47 percent from beyond the arc and 82 percent from the charity stripe. Both teams pulled down 41 rebounds.
Stacey Barr led all players with 21 points and 12 rebounds for her 12th double-double of the season. Alyssa Charlston added 20 points, while Ali Forde finished with 15 points, seven rebounds, three steals and two blocks. Christina Salvatore added 10 points.
Calli White led Kansas City with 18 points, all on three-pointers, while Eilise O'Connor added 16 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Kim Nezianya posted her WAC-leading 17th double-double of the season. Taylor Leathers added 10 points.
Bakersfield 66, Utah Valley 51
After leading by just one point at halftime, the Roadrunners outscored Utah Valley by 14 points in the second half en route to a 66-51 win at the Icardo Center Saturday to close out the regular season. With the win, Bakersfield improves to 18-10 on the season and 12-4 in WAC play. The Wolverines fall to 7-22 overall and 4-12 in the WAC with the loss.
The Roadrunners shot 34 percent from the field, 22 percent from three-point range and 80 percent from the free throw line on the game. Utah Valley connected on 42 percent from the floor, 57 percent from downtown and 55 percent from the line. The Wolverines edged Bakersfield on the boards, 39-38, but committed 26 turnovers in the loss.
Melissa Sweat led Bakersfield with 13 points, eight rebounds and four steals. Tyonna Outland added 12 points, eight rebounds and four assists.
Sam Loggins paced Utah Valley with 13 points, while Katie Kuklok added 12 points, all on three-pointers, to go along with nine rebounds.
Seattle U 75, Chicago State 63
The Redhawks snapped a three-game losing skid with a 75-63 win over Chicago State at the Connolly Center Saturday. With the win, Seattle U improves to 14-15 on the season and 9-7 in WAC play. The Cougars drop to 3-26 overall and 0-16 in the WAC with the defeat.
The Redhawks shot 50 percent from the field, 57 percent from three-point range and 69 percent from the free throw line. Chicago State connected on 45 percent from the floor, 50 percent from beyond the arc and 82 percent from the charity stripe. Seattle U won the rebounding battle, 37-24.
Kacie Sowell led all players with 21 points to go along with eight rebounds. Sylvia Shephard added 16 points, six rebounds, six assists and four steals. Wilma Afunugo finished with 12 points and eight rebounds.
Paris Williams, Tierra Williams and Konner Harris had 14 points each, while Layne Murphy added 10 points for Chicago State.
Grand Canyon 77, Texas-Pan American 55
The Antelopes closed out the regular season with a 77-55 win over Texas-Pan American at Antelope Gymnasium Saturday afternoon. With the win, Grand Canyon improves to 21-8 on the season and 10-6 in WAC play. The Broncs fall to 14-15 overall and 8-8 in the WAC.
The 'Lopes shot 48 percent from the field, 46 percent from three-point range and 73 percent from the free throw line on the game. UTPA connected on 37 percent from the floor, 25 percent from downtown and 50 percent from the line. GCU out-rebounded the Broncs, 43-33.
Deanna Daniels led Grand Canyon with 27 points and nine rebounds. Justine Johnson added 17 points, while Johnna Brown pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds to go along with six assists.
Brittany Bush led UTPA with her sixth double-double of the year with 12 points and 11 boards. Shawnte' Goff, KaeLynn Boyd and Jasmine Thompson scored 11 points apiece.
