DENVER – Grand Canyon senior forward Deanna Daniels has been named Western Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week of March 3-8. This is her first-ever WAC Player of the Week honor.
The Las Vegas, Nev., native led the Antelopes to a 2-0 record last week with wins over New Mexico State and Texas-Pan American to close out the season in third place in the WAC standings in their first year at the Division I level. Daniels opened the week with 21 points, eight rebounds, four assists, one block and one steal in a win over the Aggies. She followed it up with 27 points on 10-of-14 shooting, nine rebounds and three assists in a win over the Broncs. For the week, Daniels averaged 24.0 points on 62 percent shooting, 8.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists. She entered week averaging 13.7 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.4 assists.
Other nominees included: Chicago State’s Layne Murphy averaged 12.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks last week ... Alyssa Charlston of Idaho averaged 20.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists in a pair of wins ... Calli White of Kansas City averaged 17.5 points, 3.0 assists and 2.5 steals as the Kangaroos went 1-1 on the week ... New Mexico State’s Danesia Williamson finished with 28 points, seven rebounds, two assists and two steals in a loss to Grand Canyon ... Kacie Sowell of Seattle U averaged 13.5 points and 7.5 rebounds as the Redhawks went 1-1 on the week ... Texas-Pan American’s Brittany Bush finished with 12 points and 11 rebounds in a loss to Grand Canyon ... Katie Kuklok of Utah Valley finished with 12 points and nine in a loss to Bakersfield.
