Grand Canyon 8, Sacramento State 6

Phoenix, Ariz.-(GCU Media Relations) The Grand Canyon University baseball team (18-15, 8-4 WAC) won their third Western Athletic Conference series in four tries, this time winning the rubber match over conference leader Sacramento State (21-14, 10-2 WAC) by a score of 8-6 today at Brazell Stadium. The Hornets entered the weekend without a loss in conference play, but the Antelopes twice rallied from a deficit today to secure the series victory.

"This is a great win for the guys, it builds some confidence and belief within the team," said head coach Andy Stankiewicz. "Sacramento State is a good team, and they can really swing the bats. It was a good team weekend. Our guys are starting to understand that it is fun playing baseball when everyone is involved and playing good baseball. As a coach, that is the best part."

Utah Valley 14, Texas-Pan American 11

OREM, Utah –(UVU Media Relations) Utah Valley University saw a six-run lead disappear only to respond with six runs in the eighth inning to win the finale of a three-game series, 14-11, over Texas-Pan American on Sunday at Brent Brown Ballpark.

Jordy Hart went 4-for-5 with four RBIs and capped the six-run eighth with a three-run home run. The Wolverines (14-20, 7-5) and Broncs (15-23, 5-7) combined to score 13 runs in the eighth. UTPA scored seven times in the top half of the inning to take a 9-8 lead.

Bakersfield 11, Chicago State 0 (7)

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.—(CSUB Media Relations) For the second consecutive game Allen Gwynn (R-Sr., Santa Paula, Calif., Ventura College) recorded three RBI’s as Bakersfield (14-19, 7-5 WAC) completed a three-game Western Athletic Conference sweep of Chicago State (10-21, 0-9 WAC)11-0 Sunday afternoon. The game was called after seven innings as CSUB invoked the 10-run WAC mercy rule.

In addition to his RBI’s, Gwynn, the Roadrunner first baseman went 2-for-3 with two runs scored on the day. Garrett Pierce (Jr., Bakersfield, Calif., Centennial HS) led the ‘Runner offense, going 3-for-4 with two RBI’s. Oscar Sanay (Sr., Chula Vista, Calif., Bonita Vista HS) tied his career high with four RBI’s as he went 2-for-4. Bakersfield scored one in the first, one in the fourth, two in the fifth, and exploded for seven in the sixth.

Seattle U 6, Northern Colorado 0

Seattle, Wash.-(SU Media Relations) Seattle University scored early and kept Northern Colorado off the scoreboard, holding the Bears to just three hits as the Redhawks completed the weekend series sweep with a 6-0 victory Sunday afternoon in Western Athletic Conference baseball action at Bannerwood Park.

Chase Fields (Ontario, Ore.) led off the bottom of the first inning with a single and a steal of second base, and he advanced to third on a bunt single by Griffin Andreychuk (Nanaimo, B.C.). Landon Cray (Chimacum, Wash.) drove in Fields with a single to center field, and then, after two flyouts, Brock Carpenter (Milton, Wash.) hit a two-out, two-run double to right-center field. Carpenter would come around to score on a single to right-center field by Grant Newton (Bend, Ore.).
