New Mexico State 17, Bakersfield 2 (5)
The Aggies set a WAC record with 17 runs in the first inning to defeat Bakersfield 17-2 in five innings Saturday at the NM State Softball Complex to sweep the series with the Roadrunners. With the win, the Aggies improve to 26-16 overall and sit atop the WAC standings at 8-1. Bakersfield falls to 11-34-1 on the season and 1-8 in the WAC.
All of the scoring in the game came in the first inning. After Bakersfield scored two runs in the top half of the inning, the bottom half featured 11 singles, six walks, two players hit by a pitch and one error. The previous record for runs in an inning was 13 by Hawai‘i against Nevada during the 2010 season.
Fiana Finau and Emma Adams had three RBI apiece, while Staci Rodriguez and Alyssa Ruiz drove in two runs each.
Lacey Rother tied with six other players for the WAC record for walks in a game with four.
Celisha Walker earned the win in the circle to improve to 7-5 on the season. She allowed two runs on six hits with one strikeout and one walk.
Bakersfield used three pitchers in the game and all three entered in the first inning. Starter Amber Mills suffered the loss to drop to 2-5 on the year. She gave up nine runs on six hits with three walks in 2/3 of an inning. Kelsie Monroe allowed eight runs on five hits with two walks and didn't record an out. Lyndsey Klimenko got the final out of the first and threw the rest of the game, allowing just one hit. She struck out three and walked three.
Grand Canyon 14, Utah Valley 4 (6)
The Antelopes scored 11 runs in the sixth inning, breaking out of a 3-3 tie and earning the series sweep over Utah Valley with a 14-4 win Saturday at Wolverine Field. The 14 runs was a season high for Grand Canyon.
With the win, the 'Lopes improve to 22-17 overall and 7-2 in the WAC. The Wolverines fall to 12-26 on the season and 4-5 in WAC play with the loss.
Lauren Regester led GCU at the plate, going 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBI. Kelsey Barak drove in two runs, while Haley Walker, Kayla Henry, Nicole Newbury, Camree Wartman, Kailey Regester, Kiki Sepulveda and Claire Zampini had one RBI each.
Amanda Robinson made Utah Valley history when she connected for her 32nd career home run in the fourth inning to become the program's all-time leader in the category.
Sepulveda earned the win in relief, throwing two hitless innings to improve to 2-2 on the season. Starter Stephanie Pesqueira gave up three runs on three hits with three strikeouts and four walks over 3.1 innings.
Utah Valley used four pitchers, with Kailey Christensen taking the loss to drop to 2-4 on the year. Starter Josi Summers threw four innings, allowing four runs on eight hits with two walks.
Seattle U 6, Kansas City 4
The Redhawks defeated Kansas City 6-4 Saturday at Logan Field to win the series. With the victory, Seattle U improves to 15-28 on the season and 4-5 in the WAC. The Kangaroos drop to 13-30 overall and 3-6 in WAC play.
Isabella Geronimo drove in two runs, while Bubba Morrow was 3-for-3 with a solo homer. Brianna Guerrero, Jenny Hurst and Hayley Beckstrom had one RBI each.
Caitlin Christopher hit a two-run homer, while Katie Kelley had a solo homer to lead the 'Roos at the plate.
Lindsay Davis earned the win in the circle, improving to 7-6 on the season. She allowed four runs on four hits with three strikeouts and one walk over six innings. Alyssa Reuble picked up the save, her third of the season. She threw one hitless inning, striking out two.
Kelley suffered the loss in relief, dropping to 7-14 on the year. She gave up four runs on nine hits, with four strikeouts and three walks. Starter Cinda Ramos lasted 1/3 of an inning, allowing two runs on two hits.
