DENVER – Idaho’s Alycia Butterworth and Grand Canyon’s Vanessa Levy have been named the Western Athletic Conference women’s track and field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for April 7-13.
Butterworth, a senior from Parksvillie, B.C., Canada (Ballenas Secondary), won the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Sun Angel Classic. Her first-place time of 10:27.32 topped the second-place finisher by a margin of 32-seconds. Butterworth’s time ranks first in the WAC, 18th in the NCAA West Region and 37th in the NCAA so far this season.
Levy, a senior from Clarendon, Jamaica (Johnson Community College), recorded a trio of second-place finishes over the weekend at the UTEP Invitational. Levy broke her own school record in the shot put, recording a heave of 13.78 meters (third-best in WAC). Levy finished second in the discus throw with a conference-best toss of 47.95m. The senior also took second in the hammer throw, posting a distance of 49.69m (fifth in WAC).
