DENVER – Seattle U’s Kyle Cornett and New Mexico State’s Camille Orito have been named the Western Athletic Conference Men’s and Women’s Golfers of the Week, respectively, for April 7-13.

Cornett, freshman from Mill Creek, Wash. (Jackson HS), led Seattle U’s contingent at the inaugural Redhawk Invitational at Chambers Bay, the site of the 2015 United States Open Championship. He shot a season-best 68 in the first round before posting back-to-back 75s for a three-round total of 218. The 68 was his best first-round score of the year by four strokes. He finished in a tie for 29th place in the individual standings. He is now second on the Redhawk men’s golf team in scoring average at 74.6.

Orito, a freshman from Fresno, Calif. (Clovis West HS) finished in a three-way tie for first place at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic in Maricopa, Ariz. Her 1-under par 215 three-round score led New Mexico State its first tournament team title since October of 2010. Orito shot a career-best 1-under par 71 in the first round and followed it up with a career-best 2-under par 70 in the second round. The 1-under 215 is a career-best for Orito, who was playing in only her sixth tournament for NM State. Orito’s finish is the best Aggie finish since former Aggie golfer Demi Mak won the BYU at Entrada Classic in March of 2011.

The other men’s golfer nominations: Texas-Pan American junior Chris Felix.

The other women’s golfer nominations: Kansas City junior Susan Kirschenman … Chicago State senior Brooke Melvin.
