#15 Washington 14, Northern Colorado 3
SEATTLE –(NC Media Relations) Northern Colorado let another one get away Monday, falling 14-3 at the University of Washington, the No. 15 team in the country.
Catcher Andrew Coffman (Davenport, Iowa) hit a sac fly in the first inning, scoring shortstop Ryan Yamane (Honolulu), but the Huskies tied it up in the bottom half. UW added a run in the fourth and two in the fifth before second baseman Landon Moseley (Lawrence, Kan.) scored on a wild pitch in the seventh inning.
With a 4-2 lead, Washington (25-7-1 proceeded to blow the doors off in the final innings, plating four in the seventh and six in the eighth, yielding only one run to the Bears in the top half of the eighth, a home run by third baseman Alex Drew (Overland Park, Kan.), along the way.
The Bears (5-31) had seven hits in the game, led by Yamane's 2-for-3 game, but they also struck out 10 times and left 12 men stranded.
Starter Nick Miller (Loveland) went 4 2/3 innings on the hill, allowing the Huskies' first four runs on six hits with three walks and one strikeout. He was relieved by Yan Fortin (Laval, Quebec) who pitched an inning and a third, facing four batters and striking out three of them.
Nick Tanner (Foothill Ranch, Calif.) started the seventh inning and faced six batters while only recording one out. He allowed four runs on four hits and was relieved by Lucas Corrick (Lakewood), who didn't fare much better, lasting an inning and allowing five runs. Spencer Johnson (Centennial) finished the game and allowed one run on four hits.
In all, the Huskies tagged the Bears' pitching staff for 16 hits while drawing six walks.
Northern Colorado heads home now and looks to get off the schneid as it welcomes Grand Canyon University (18-15, 8-4 WAC) to Greeley for a three-game series starting at 3 p.m. Friday at Jackson Field.
