CHICAGO STATE
Chicago State went 0-2 last week, falling at Western Illinois, 5-2, and at Valparaiso, 7-0 ... Junior Sergiu Muresan scored two victories for the Cougars in singles and doubles ... he defeated Max Cederkall 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3 singles and won in doubles with partner junior Luis Ulloa 8-4 over Chris Bunch and Brett Furmanski ... the Cougars are off until the WAC Championships, which will be held April 25-27 in Las Cruces, N.M.
GRAND CANYON
Grand Canyon fell 4-3 to New Mexico State in its only match of the week ... New Mexico State opened the day by taking the doubles point and set the stage for the singles round ... of the six singles matches, four went three sets, each side winning two, taking over four hours to complete the match ... Benjamin Collomb and Alexander Roggenkamp each won in three sets for the ‘Lopes ... Roggenkamp has won five-straight singles matches, Collomb has won four in a row ... Nicolas Moulin cruised to a win in straight sets at No. 1 singles ... the Antelopes will be off until April 24-26, when they will have three matches in Omaha, Neb. to close out the season.
IDAHO
Idaho went 0-2 last week, falling to Boise State, 5-0, and to UC Irvine, 4-1 ... Bendeck went 1-1 in singles and 1-0 in doubles on the week ... his only singles loss was a narrow defeat at No. 22 BSU, falling 6-3, 6-7, 6-7 ... Bendeck and Cristobal Ramos Salazar are ranked No. 89 in the ITA doubles rankings ... this week, Idaho closes out the regular season with a match at Montana on Thursday and then hosts Lewis-Clark State College on Saturday.
KANSAS CITY
Kansas City went 2-0 last week, defeating William Jewell, 7-0, and Cowley College, 6-1 ... the ‘Roos have now won four-straight matches ... Andrey Smirnov moved up to play the No. 1 position against William Jewell for the first time in his career, and took a straight-set win... Smirnov also won his match on Friday in straight sets… he also teamed with Uldis Gaismins to go 2-0 in doubles play during the week ... this week, the ‘Roos will end their regular season on Wednesday at home against Northwest Missouri State.
NEW MEXICO STATE
NM State went 2-0 last weekend, defeating Grand Canyon, 4-3, and UT-Permian Basin, 7-0 ... Paul Denele went 2-0 in singles play at the No. 2 court and 2-0 in doubles with junior partner Patrick Pfister ... he battled a three-set win at the third court against his GCU counterpart, after losing the first set, he came back for a pair of 6-4 set wins to take the match ... the Aggies are off until they host the WAC Tennis Championship from April 25-27.
SEATTLE U
Seattle U closed out the regular season with a 6-1 victory over Portland State and added a 7-0 win over Pacific Lutheran ... Jason Bediones and Kevin Lynch earned the lone doubles win for the Redhawks in their 6-1 victory vs. Portland State … Lynch also earned two singles wins on the week … Lynch finished 2013-14 with 13 total singles victories, 12 during the spring dual season (tied for most on the team during spring) ... SU is off until the WAC Championships, which will be held April 25-27 in Las Cruces, N.M.
TEXAS-PAN AMERICAN
The Broncs were off last week ... the Broncs lost 4-3 to Laredo Community College, the No. 2 ranked junior college team in the nation, in their last action .... the duo of Joseph Bishop and Mauricio Fosado have now won three straight matches in doubles competition. ... the Broncs have wrapped up their regular season and are now preparing for the WAC Championships, which will be held April 25-27 in Las Cruces, N.M.
WAC TOURNAMENT TO BE HELD IN LAS CRUCES
The 2014 WAC Tennis Tournament will be held April 25-27 in Las Cruces, N.M. The WAC conference championship will be up for grabs, as last year’s champions, Denver, has since departed the WAC.
