Kansas 7, Grand Canyon 1
Lawrence, Kansas- (GCU Media Relations) The Grand Canyon University baseball team (19-16, 8-4 WAC) could not overcome an early deficit as they dropped a 7-1 decision to Kansas (23-16, 6-6 Big 12) tonight at Hoglund Ballpark in Lawrence, Kan. With the loss, the Antelopes split their two-game, non-conference series against the Jayhawks after getting the 5-3 win last night. The Jayhawks scored five of their seven runs in the first inning.
"We put ourselves behind right away, and we always talk about trying to minimize innings," said head coach Andy Stankiewicz. "We had a chance there in the first to minimize the damage, and I thought if we could have gotten out of that inning with just a run or two, we would have been okay. But the next thing you know, two runs turned into five and it is difficult to chase five runs after one inning."
