Sacramento State 5, Utah Valley 0

SACRAMENTO, Calif. –(SAC Media Relations) Junior Brennan Leitao recorded a career-high nine strikeouts over six scoreless innings and the Hornets tallied two runs in the second inning and three more in the third en route to a 5-0 shutout of Utah Valley in the first game of the weekend WAC series.

The shutout was the third of the season for Sacramento State (23-14, 11-2 WAC) while Leitao's strikeout total was three better than the team's previous individual season high. The Hornets are now 7-0 at home in WAC play while Utah Valley (14-21, 7-6 WAC) took its first road WAC loss after sweeping Chicago State two weeks ago.

Texas-Pan American 2, Bakersfield 1

EDINBURG – (UTPA Media Relations) Freshman Blake Thomas hit a walk-off two-run single with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to lead the University of Texas-Pan American Broncs baseball team past the California State University, Bakersfield Roadrunners 2-1 on Thursday at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.

Junior Jesus Garcia led off the ninth with a fly ball to right field, but Chance Gusbeth dropped the ball. One out later, redshirt junior Edinburg alum Lee Rios doubled. Senior Shane Ammon hit the ball back to the mound. The throw came home, but the runners didn't try to advance, allowing the Broncs to load the bases. After a fielder's choice kept the bases loaded, Thomas hit a 2-1 pitch over the head of centerfielder Jordie Hein to end the game.

New Mexico State 7, Seattle U 4

LAS CRUCES, N.M.—(NMSU Media Relations) The New Mexico State baseball team earned the opening win in its four-game series with Seattle U 7-4 on Thursday, April 17, at Presley Askew Field. The win brought the Aggies to 14-19 on the season and 6-4 in Western Athletic Conference Play.

Senior Christopher Bradley got the start for the Aggies on the pitching mound in game one. He found some momentum early on and put in 6.2 innings of work and struck out a season-high seven batters on his way to earning the win. This brings Bradley’s record to 2-4 on the season.
