DENVER – New Mexico State’s Viviana Macias has been named the Western Athletic Conference Golfer of the Week for March 24-30.
Macias, a sophomore from Guadalajara, Mexico (COBAEJ), helped the Aggies finish in a tie for sixth place at the Mountain View Collegiate in Tucson, Ariz., after posting a career-best total score of 2-over par 218 to finish in 10th place. Macias broke her previous career best by four strokes. She kicked off the tournament by shooting an even-par 72 during the first round and capped off the tournament by tying her career-low round, a 1-under par 71 in the final round. It is the first time in her NM State career that Macias has shot two rounds of par or better in a single tournament. Macias’ 10th place finish is her second top-10 performance of the year and her fifth-consecutive top-20 finish.
