Chicago State also scored the doubles point after winning two of the three doubles matches ... senior Karyn Emeralda and freshman Kirsa Utech won 8-6 over Cervin Aspen and Maria Toro ... freshman Faith Huckabee and sophomore Carynne Lloyd were 8-4 winners over Natalia Yacaman and Madison Cook ... the Cougars are off this week ... CSU returns to the court on Saturday at Bowling Green State University and faces Northern Kentucky on Sunday.
GRAND CANYON
Grand Canyon defeated Nevada, 5-1, and Colorado State, 7-0, on a road trip to Reno, Nev. ... the ‘Lopes then fell to No. 74 Idaho, 4-0 ... Frederique Van de Velde had a perfect 3-0 weekend against Nevada and CSU, winning two singles matches ... prior to the loss to Idaho’s Galina Bykova and Rita Bermudez, Van de Velde and Janaki Gunuganti had won 11 straight doubles matches ... the ‘Lopes are off until April 24-25, when they travel to Omaha, Neb. to face Abilene Christian and Nebrask-Omaha ... the ‘Lopes are unable to compete in the WAC Tennis Championships during their Division I transition period.
IDAHO
Idaho went a perfect 3-0 in its last action, not losing a single match against Lewis-Clark State College (7-0), Northern Arizona (7-0) and Grand Canyon (4-0) ... Victoria Lozano was named tennis Athlete of the Week for her performance last week, going 2-0 in No. 1 singles ... . Lozano is 12-4 in singles play this season, and 13-3 in doubles with partner Almudena Sanz ... the Vandals are off this week ... Idaho will be back in action on April 11 against UTEP.
KANSAS CITY
The ‘Roos were off last week ... in its last action, UMKC travelled to California for two matches last week, sweeping Concordia (Calif.), 7-0, and falling to Cal State-Northridge, 7-0 ... the ‘Roos had to play Northridge without their No. 1 singles player, Dimitra Stavrianakou ... UMKC will return to action on Friday against St. Louis.
NEW MEXICO STATE
New Mexico State finished off a 1-2 road trip to California, defeating Cal State Fullerton, 4-3, but fell to UC Irvine, 4-0, and Cal State Northridge, 4-2 ... NM State dropped the doubles point against Fullerton, but came back to win in singles competition ... this week, the Aggies host Western New Mexico at 2 p.m. on Wednesday and Tarleton State on Friday.
SEATTLE U
Seattle U was off last week ... SU went 1-4 in its last action in Las Vegas, Nev. ... the Redhawks swept Mesa Community College, 7-0, to earn their fourth victory of the season, but fell to Weber State, Grand Canyon, Idaho State and Southern Utah ... the Redhawks have one final regular season contest on Apr. 12 vs. Southern Utah in Spokane before travelling to Las Cruces, N.M. for the 2014 WAC Tennis Tournament from April 25-27.
TEXAS-PAN AMERICAN
The Broncs were off last week ... in its last action, UTPA earned a 5-2 win over Incarnate Word .... sophomore Christel Amsallem won her seventh straight match as she defeated Brianah Creek 6-0, 6-0 ... Amsallem is now 12-4 on the season ... senior Wanda Beguelin defeated Sarah Savedra 4-6, 7-6, 10-3 ... the win was Beguelin’s 44th career victory, which ranks her seventh in program history in singles victories ... UTPA only has one match remaining, on April 9, hosting Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, before travelling to Las Cruces, N.M. for the 2014 WAC Tennis Tournament, which will take place April 25-27.
WAC TOURNAMENT TO BE HELD IN LAS CRUCES
The 2014 WAC Tennis Tournament will be held April 25-27 in Las Cruces, N.M. The WAC conference championship will be up for grabs, as last year’s champions, San Jose State, has since departed the WAC.
