CHICAGO STATE
Chicago State dropped two matches in Nebraska, falling 5-2 to Omaha and 6-1 to Creighton ... the Cougars grabbed the doubles point against Omaha, but only junior Luis Ulloa was able to grab a singles win, at the No. 4 slot ... junior Sergiu Muresan was a 6-4, 4-6, 10-6 winner over Elliot Baker at the No. 2 singles position to score the only point against Creighton ... the Cougars return home for a three-match home stand beginning with a doubleheader on Thursday against Roosevelt University and Ball State ... CSU then faces IUPUI on Sunday.
GRAND CANYON
Grand Canyon was off last week ... GCU went 3-0 on a trip to Las Vegas, Nev. in its last action ... GCU swept a doubleheader over Southern Utah (7-0) and Seattle (4-3) on Sunday, and then dropped Idaho State, 5-2, on Monday ... Adrian Legarreta has won four-straight matches at the No. 3 position ... Felix Schueller was named WAC men’s tennis Athlete of the Week for his 4-0 effort on the week ... GCU has won eight of its last nine matches ... GCU will be back in action on Friday against Northern Arizona in Sedona, Ariz.
IDAHO
Idaho went 1-2 in its last action ... the Vandals defeated Seattle U, 4-3, but fell to Hawai’i, 5-2, and Portland, 6-1 ... Artemiy Nikitin went 2-0 at No. 1 singles last week, beating Seattle’s Kevin Lynch in three sets and Hawai`i’s Nils Schulhmann in straight sets ... Nikitin was named WAC tennis Athlete of the Week for his efforts ... this week, the Vandals will be off ... UI is back in action on April 11 at Boise State.
KANSAS CITY
Kansas City was off last weekend ... in its last action, UMKC fell in three matches in Wichita, Kan., losing to Lamar, Wichita State and Air Force ... the ‘Roos won the doubles point against Lamar and Air Force, but couldn’t win more than two singles matches in any contest ... Uldis Gaismins went 2-1 at No. 5 singles ... Tomas Patino picked up a win at No. 1 singles over Air Force ... the ‘Roos return to action on Friday at St. Louis and host Bradley on Saturday.
NEW MEXICO STATE
New Mexico State fell 6-0 in a dual match against Texas Tech on March 30 ... junior Germain Degardin battled Texas Tech’s Francisco Zambon 6-2, 4-6 in the first two sets before falling in the third set tiebreaker ... this week, the Aggies host Western New Mexico on Wednesday.
SEATTLE U
Seattle U fell to Idaho, 4-3, in its only match of the week ... SU lost the doubles point, but Will Topp would tie the match, 1-1, with a win at No. 2 singles in straight sets ... the match would be tied again, at 2-2, after Connor Leahy earned a straight sets victory at No. 6 singles ... Riley Newman took the lead for the Redhawks in the No. 5 spot with a win, 7-5, 6-2, but Idaho would finish with a pair of singles victories to win ... this week, Seattle U hosts Pacific Lutheran on Tuesday, in its final home match, which will serve as Senior Day.
TEXAS-PAN AMERICAN
The Broncs fell in both matches this weekend, 4-3 to New Orleans and 6-1 at Louisiana-Lafayette ... freshman Juan Cruz Soria picked up his seventh singles victory with a win over Louisiana-Lafayette’s Jake Wynan ... the doubles team of Mauricio Fosado and Joseph Bishop won both of their matches this past weekend ... this week, the Broncs travel to Laredo to face Laredo Community College on Friday to close out their regular season.
WAC TOURNAMENT TO BE HELD IN LAS CRUCES
The 2014 WAC Tennis Tournament will be held April 25-27 in Las Cruces, N.M. The WAC conference championship will be up for grabs, as last year’s champions, Denver, has since departed the WAC.
