CHICAGO STATE
Chicago State was off last week ... CSU went 0-2 in its last weekend, falling at Western Illinois, 5-2, and at Valparaiso, 7-0 ... junior Sergiu Muresan scored two victories for the Cougars in singles and doubles ... he defeated Max Cederkall 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3 singles and won in doubles with partner junior Luis Ulloa 8-4 over Chris Bunch and Brett Furmanski ... the Cougars are the No. 5 seed in the WAC Tennis Tournament and will face No. 4 Kansas City in the first round on Friday ... the winner will advance to face No. 1 seed New Mexico State on Saturday.
GRAND CANYON
Grand Canyon was off last week ... GCU fell 4-3 to New Mexico State in its last match ... New Mexico State opened the day by taking the doubles point and set the stage for the singles round ... of the six singles matches, four went three sets, each side winning two, taking over four hours to complete the match ... Benjamin Collomb and Alexander Roggenkamp each won in three sets for the ‘Lopes ... Roggenkamp has won five-straight singles matches, Collomb has won four in a row ... Nicolas Moulin cruised to a win in straight sets at No. 1 singles ... the Antelopes will be back in action on Thursday when they travel to Omaha, Neb. to close out the season with three matches ... the ‘Lopes face Abilene Christian on Thursday, Omaha on Friday and New Jersey Institute of Technology on Saturday ... GCU cannot compete in the WAC Tennis Tournament due to the NCAA transitionary period for moving up to Division I.
IDAHO
Idaho went 2-0 last week, defeating Montana, 4-2, and Lewis-Clark State College, 7-0 ... Jose Bendeck combined to go 4-0 in singles and doubles during the week, playing all four of his matches at the No. 1 position ... Bendeck beat Montana’s No. 1 singles player and No. 1 doubles duo in close matches to help Idaho pull out the 4-2 win this week ... Idaho earned the No. 2 seed in the WAC Tennis Tournament and a bye into the semifinals on Saturday ... the Vandals will face the winner of No. 3 Seattle U vs. No. 6 Texas-Pan American.
KANSAS CITY
Kansas City fell to Northwest Missouri 4-3 in its only match last week ... UMKC is the No. 4 seed in the WAC Tennis Tournament and will face No. 5 Chicago State in the first round on Friday ... the winner will advance to face No. 1 seed New Mexico State on Saturday.
NEW MEXICO STATE
NM State was off last week ... the Aggies went 2-0 in their last action, defeating Grand Canyon, 4-3, and UT-Permian Basin, 7-0 ... Paul Denele went 2-0 in singles play at the No. 2 court and 2-0 in doubles with junior partner Patrick Pfister ... he battled a three-set win at the third court against his GCU counterpart, after losing the first set, he came back for a pair of 6-4 set wins to take the match ... the Aggies are the No. 1 seed in the WAC Tennis Championship and earned a bye to the semifinals to face the winner of No. 4 Kansas City vs. No. 5 Chicago State.
SEATTLE U
Seattle U was off last week ... in its last action, SU closed out the regular season with a 6-1 victory over Portland State and added a 7-0 win over Pacific Lutheran ... Jason Bediones and Kevin Lynch earned the lone doubles win for the Redhawks in their 6-1 victory vs. Portland State … Lynch also earned two singles wins on the week … Lynch finished 2013-14 with 13 total singles victories, 12 during the spring dual season (tied for most on the team during spring) ... SU earned the No. 3 seed in the WAC Tennis Championship and will face No. 6 Texas-Pan American in the first round on Friday ... the winner will advance to play No. 2 Idaho in the semifinals on Saturday.
TEXAS-PAN AMERICAN
The Broncs were off last week ... the Broncs lost 4-3 to Laredo Community College, the No. 2 ranked junior college team in the nation, in their last action .... the duo of Joseph Bishop and Mauricio Fosado have now won three straight matches in doubles competition. ... the Broncs are the No. 6 seed in the WAC Tennis Championship and will face No. 3 Seattle U in the first round on Friday ... the winner will advance to play No. 2 Idaho in the semifinals on Saturday.
WAC TOURNAMENT TO BE HELD IN LAS CRUCES
The 2014 WAC Tennis Tournament will be held April 25-27 in Las Cruces, N.M. The WAC conference championship will be up for grabs, as last year’s champions, Denver, has since departed the WAC.
