Utah Valley 5, Southern Utah 3
The Wolverines tied the program record with four home runs in a 5-3 win over Southern Utah in the first game of a twinbill Wednesday at Wolverine Field.
Dara Rahm hit her first career home run in the first, while Brianna Gatlin led off the second inning with a solo shot. Erin Romero launched the third Wolverine homer in as many innings with a two-run shot in the third and Hailey Kofler's leadoff blast in the fifth inning broke the deadlock and ultimately put Utah Valley ahead for good.
Bailey Moore earned the win to improve to 2-10 on the season. She threw six innings, allowing three runs, two earned, on seven hits. Kelsey Lawton earned the save, the first of her career, getting a pair of strikeouts in the seventh inning.
Southern Utah 7, Utah Valley 3 (8)
The Wolverines gave up four runs in the top of the eighth inning to fall 7-3 to the Thunderbirds in the nightcap. With the loss, Utah Valley drops to 14-34 on the season.
Megan Peay hit her third homer of the season, a two-run blast in the bottom of the seventh inning. Debra Lovell drove in the other UVU run with a sacrifice fly in the third inning. Rahm went 2-for-4 in game two to finish the day with a team-best four hits.
Josi Summers suffered the loss in the circle, dropping to 7-15 on the year. She allowed four unearned runs on four hits with seven strikeouts over 5.1 innings. Starter Kailey Christensen threw 2.2 innings, giving up three runs, two earned, on three hits.
No. 10 Arizona 13, New Mexico State 3 (5)
After taking a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, the Aggies fell 13-3 in five innings to No. 10 Arizona in the first game of a doubleheader Wednesday.
Staci Rodriguez hit a two-run homer, while Tatum Reedy drove in the other New Mexico State run.
Makayla McAdams suffered the loss in the circle, dropping to 9-5 on the season. She gave up nine earned runs on nine hits with five walks over two innings. Celisha Walker threw two innings in relief, giving up three runs on seven hits.
No. 10 Arizona 13, New Mexico State 7
Malena Padilla hit a pair of home runs, but it wasn't enough as the Aggies fell 13-7 to the Wildcats in the nightcap. With the loss, New Mexico State drops to 26-21 on the season.
Padilla was 2-for-2 with four RBI, while Lacey Rother hit a two-run homer.
Karysta Donisthorpe suffered the loss in the circle, dropping to 10-10 on the year. She allowed 13 runs, 11 earned, on 11 hits with four strikeouts and six walks.
