Grand Canyon 4, Seattle U 3
The Antelopes locked up at least a share of the WAC regular-season title with a 4-3 win over Seattle U in the first game of a doubleheader Friday at Logan Field.
Grand Canyon took advantage of five Redhawk errors in the game as only one of the four Antelope runs were earned. Kelsey Barak, Nicole Newbury and Camree Wartman had one RBI each.
Lisa Maulden, Jenny Hurst and Mandie Sugita all drove in one run for Seattle U.
Stephanie Pesqueira earned the complete-game win to improve to 14-7 on the year. She allowed three runs on four hits with two strikeouts and one walk.
Lindsay Davis suffered the loss to fall to 8-7 on the season. She gave up one earned run on eight hits and struck out three.
Seattle U 4, Grand Canyon 2
The Redhawks snapped Grand Canyon's eight-game winning streak with a 4-2 win in the nightcap. With the victory, Seattle U improves to 17-31 on the season and 6-8 in WAC play. The Antelopes drop to 26-18 overall and 11-3 in the WAC with the loss.
Isabella Geronimo drove in two runs, while Sugita was 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Richelle Ashburn earned the win in the circle, improving to 3-9 on the season. She gave up two runs on seven hits over 6.3 innings.
Taylor Nowlin suffered the loss, dropping to 5-5 on the year. She allowed three runs, one earned, on two hits in one inning of work. Kiki Sepulveda threw five innings, giving up one unearned run on five hits.
New Mexico State 6, Utah Valley 3 (9)
The Aggies capitalized on three Wolverine errors and six walks to defeat Utah Valley 6-3 in nine innings in the first game of a twinbill at Wolverine Field Friday.
Staci Rodriguez, Kelsey Dodd and Malena Padilla each had one RBI to pace New Mexico State.
Debra Lovell and Amanda Robinson hit home runs to drive in the three Utah Valley runs.
Celisha Walker earned the win to improve to 8-6 on the year. She gave up one run on four hits with seven strikeouts and two walks over seven innings.
Bailey Moore took the loss, falling to 2-11 on the year. She allowed three runs, all unearned, on two hits over three innings. She struck out three and walked two. Starter Josi Summers threw six innings, giving up three runs on four hits with three strikeouts and four walks.
New Mexico State 15, Utah Valley 6 (5)
In the nightcap, the Aggies belted 14 hits en route to a 15-6 five-inning win to improve to 28-21 overall and 10-4 in WAC play. The Wolverines fall to 14-36 on the season and 5-9 in the WAC with the loss.
The Aggies had six doubles in the game - two by Dodd and one each by Brennalyn Nakamura, Emma Adams, Rodriguez and Padilla.
Robinson hit her 10th homer of the season for Utah Valley.
Makayla McAdams earned the win in the circle to improve to 10-5 on the year. She allowed one unearned run on one hit with one strikeout and three walks over two innings. Starter Karysta Donisthorpe threw 2.1 innings, giving up two runs on four hits.
Summers suffered the loss to fall to 7-16 on the season. She allowed five runs on four hits over 2/3 of an inning.
Kansas City 9, Bakersfield 3
In a game with 20 combined hits, the Kangaroos defeated Bakersfield 9-3 in the first game of a doubleheader Friday at the Missouri 3&2 Complex.
Caitlin Christopher led Kansas City at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI. Cinda Ramos drove in two runs, while Brooke Parker, Marlee Maples and Maddie Garton had one RBI apiece.
Jessica Castaneda and Briana Pontecorvo drove in the Bakersfield runs.
Katie Kelley earned the complete-game win in the circle, improving to 11-14 on the season. She allowed three runs, two earned, on nine hits. Kelley struck out to and walked two.
Lyndsay Klimenko took the loss, dropping to 3-9 on the year. She gave up six runs on eight hits over three innings. Reliever Amber Mills threw three innings, allowing three runs on three hits.
Bakersfield 5, Kansas City 4
In the nightcap, the Roadrunners broke a 4-4 tie with a run in the top of the seventh to win 5-4. Bakersfield improves to 15-37-1 overall and 4-10 in WAC play with the win. The 'Roos drop to 17-33 on the season and 6-8 in the WAC with the loss.
Madison Bundy drove in the winning run with her ninth double of the season. Castaneda was 3-for-4 with a homer and three RBI.
Kelley led Kansas City at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a pair of homers and three RBI.
Sydney Raeber earned the win in the circle to improve to 1-5 on the year. She allowed one hit over 2.1 innings with one strikeout. Klimenko picked up her second save of the season. Starter Kelsie Monroe threw 4.1 innings, giving up four runs on five hits.
Kelley suffered the loss in the circle to fall to 11-15 on the year. She allowed one run on one hit. Starter Ramos threw 5.2 innings, giving up four runs on seven hits.
