WAC Baseball Recaps - April 26

Bakersfield 2, Sacramento State 1 (11)

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.-(CSUB Media Relations) Ross Hough's (Jr., Bakersfield, Calif., Central Arizona College) single with one out in the bottom of the 11th gave Bakersfield a 2-1 victory over Sacramento State Saturday night.

Soloman Williams' (Jr., Long Beach, Calif., Golden West College) RBI ground out to first in the bottom of the first gave the 'Runners the lead for the first time in the series. Roadrunner starting pitcher James Barragan (Jr., Bakersfield, Calif., Stockdale HS) retired 16 of the previous 18 Hornets he faced heading into the ninth. With one out, leadoff hitter Nathan Lukes singled to center. With the count 1-2 on Kyle Moses, Lukes stole second to keep the Hornets out of the double play. Moses was hit by the next pitch. Rhys Hoskins singled to left to plate Lukes and tie the game. David Del Grande popped out to second for out No. 2. Will Soto fouled out to third to end the ninth.

New Mexico State 2, Grand Canyon 1

PHOENIX –(NMSU Media Relations) The New Mexico State baseball team got a great outing from starting pitcher Billy Conard and after some tempers were raised in the seventh, the Aggies pulled off a 2-1 road win over Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Ariz., Saturday, April 26. NM State moves to 17-21 overall and 8-6 in Western Athletic Conference play, while GCU falls to 22-18 and 11-6 in league play.

Grand Canyon scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first before the Aggies eventually tied the game 1-1 in the top of the fifth after collecting three straight two-out singles. Senior outfielder was the Aggie who tallied the RBI, his 22nd of the year.

Seattle U 7, North Dakota 0

Grand Forks, N.D.-(SU Media Relations) Sophomore lefthander Will Dennis (Saratoga, Calif.) pitched a complete game, and the Seattle University offense kept the pressure on North Dakota throughout the afternoon as the Redhawks earned a key Western Athletic Conference victory, 7-0, Saturday in collegiate baseball action at Kraft Memorial Field.

Dennis threw 135 pitches, 91 of them for strikes, as he struck out eight batters without giving up any walks. North Dakota loaded the bases with just one out in both the second and ninth innings, but Dennis was able to get the final two outs each time without any runs scoring, earning the first Redhawk complete game shutout since Andrew Olson shutout UT Arlington April 21, 2013.

Chicago State 4, Texas-Pan American 2

CHICAGO –(CSU Media Relations) Chicago State pitching produced a pair of complete game efforts on Saturday (April 26) at Cougar Stadium in a Western Athletic Conference doubleheader with UTPA. The Cougars won game one 4-2 and lost the nightcap on a chilly evening 1-0.

The Cougars earned a win in game one thanks to the effort of starting pitcher junior Ean McNeal (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Xavier). He allowed two runs, nine hits, five walks, and struck out six batters. He had a 13.2 scoreless inning streak snapped when UTPA scored their first run of the game in the top of the eighth inning. Over his last two starts McNeal has threw 17.1 innings, allowing only three runs and 14 hits while recording 10 strikeouts. He is now 3-4 on the year.

Texas-Pan American 1, Chicago State 0

CHICAGO, Ill. –(UTPA Media Relations) Junior pitcher Blake English took a perfect game into the sixth inning and a no-hitter into the seventh before finishing with a one-hit shutout to lead the University of Texas-Pan American Broncs baseball team past the Chicago State University Cougars 1-0 in game two of a doubleheader on Saturday at Cougar Stadium.

The Broncs (19-26, 9-9 WAC) took two out of three from the Cougars (14-27, 3-12 WAC) to clinch their fourth-straight Western Athletic Conference series victory.
