WAC Women's Track and Field Athletes of the Week Announced

DENVER – Texas-Pan American's Deandra Barroso and Utah Valley’s Ali Shields have been named the Western Athletic Conference women’s track and field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for April 21-27.

Barroso, a junior from Mercedes, TX (Mercedes HS), won the 400-meter hurdles at the J. Fred Duckett Twilight, hosted by Rice University, with a time of 59.98 seconds. Her time ranks second in program history and is a career best. Barroso now holds two of the top three fastest times in program history with her time of 1:00.42 at the Beach Invitational ranking third.  

Shields, a senior from Lodi, Calif. (Lodi HS), placed third in both the triple jump and the 100-meter hurdles, and fourth in the long jump. She reached a mark of 11.45m in the triple jump and finished with a time of 15.02 seconds in the 100m hurdles. Her personal-best mark of 5.73m in the long jump is first in the conference this season.
