Sacramento State 8, San Francisco 4

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. –(SAC Media Relations) Sacramento State used a six-run third inning to open up a big lead on San Francisco early and five Hornet pitchers held the Dons to just four hits in the game in an 8-4 win on Wednesday night at Raley Field.

The Hornets led 8-1 through three innings and held on for a comfortable victory. Sacramento State (17-11) won its ninth straight game, extending the longest winning streak for the program since 1992, and improved to 4-0 this season at Raley Field and 6-0 in midweek games. San Francisco (13-14) had won two of three games in a split home-and-home series against the Hornets during the first weekend of March.

New Mexico 17, New Mexico State 7

ALBUQUEUQUE –(NMSU Media Relations) Third baseman Derek Umphres hit a two-run home run in the top of the first but the New Mexico State baseball team fell 17-7 to its Rio Grande Rival, New Mexico at Lobo Field in Albuquerque, N.M., Wednesday, April 2. The Aggies fall to 10-18 overall and UNM moves to 20-10-1 on the year.

The Aggies used 11 pitchers on the night and junior right-hand pitcher Matt Stein was credited with the loss as he gave up five runs in the fifth. UNM used five pitchers against the Aggies and Kevin Baumgartner earned the win after working 1.2 innings.

Portland 6, Seattle U 2

Seattle, Wash.-(SU Media Relations) The Seattle University baseball team made mistakes that the University of Portland took advantage of early in the game, and the Pilot relief pitching held down the Redhawk offense as Portland defeated Seattle U, 6-2, Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference collegiate baseball game at Bannerwood Park.

With Portland starter Kevin Wade making his first-ever collegiate pitching appearance, Chase Fields (Ontario, Ore.) drew a walk to lead off the first inning. He advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Landon Cray (Chimacum, Wash.), stole third base, and scored on an infield single by Brock Carpenter (Milton, Wash.).

Texas A&M Corpus Christi 15, Texas-Pan American 7

EDINBURG –(UTPA Media Relations) The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs baseball team fell to the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders 15-7 on Wednesday at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.

The Broncs (11-20) led early in the game, going up 2-1 on a two-run single by freshman Victor Garcia Jr. in the second, and 5-3 on a balk and RBI-singles by redshirt freshman Edinburg alum Edgar Cordon and junior Evan Mason in the third.
