A roaring comeback gave way to a heartbreaking defeat as Utah Valley overcame a seven-run deficit only to surrender a two-run lead in the seventh, falling to Utah State 10-9 on Wednesday night at Gail Miller Field in Provo. With the loss, the Wolverines drop to 10-20 on the season.
Utah Valley scored its nine runs on 10 hits, hitting a season-high three home runs. Five of the Wolverines' nine runs on the night came via the long ball.
Danielle Lovell, Erin Romero and Rachael Schoonmaker all hit homers, with Lovell driving in three runs on the game.
Bailey Moore suffered the loss in the circle, allowing three runs on four hits with two strikeouts and three walks over 5.1 innings. She falls to 1-4 on the season with the loss. Starter Kelsey Lawton allowed seven runs, only two of which were earned, on two hits. She walked five over 2/3 of an inning.
