Kansas City 9, New Mexico State 5
The Kangaroos capitalized on four Aggie errors to come from behind to defeat New Mexico State 9-5 in the first game of a twinbill at the Missouri 3&2 Complex Friday.
Kansas City belted 13 hits, led by Cinda Ramos, who was 3-for-4 with three RBI. Katie Kelley also had three hits, while Marlee Maples and Alexandra Friloux drove in one run apiece.
Ramos earned the complete-game win, improving to 5-8 on the season. She allowed four earned runs on six hits while striking out five and walking two over seven innings.
Karysta Donisthorpe suffered the loss in the circle, dropping to 9-8 on the year. She allowed seven unearned runs on seven hits while striking out three over 3.1 innings. Staci Rodriguez, Brennalyn Nakamura and Fiana Finau all hit homers in the loss.
New Mexico State 13, Kansas City 4 (5)
The Aggies benefitted from five Kangaroo errors and five walks in the nightcap, defeating Kansas City 13-4 in five innings. With the win, New Mexico State improves to 22-16 overall and 4-1 in the WAC. The 'Roos fall to 12-26 on the season and 2-3 in WAC play with the loss.
Lacey Rother hit the game's lone homer, a grand slam in the top of the second. Kelsey Dodd drove in three runs, while Tatum Reedy drove in two runs and Fiana Finau had one RBI.
Makayla McAdams earned the win, allowing two earned runs on five hits. She struck out three and walked three and improved to 8-3 on the year.
Kelley took the loss, giving up 10 runs, only two of which were earned, on six hits to fall to 6-11 on the year. She struck out five and walked four.
Grand Canyon 8, Bakersfield 0 (5)
The Antelopes shut out Bakersfield 8-0 in five innings Friday at the Roadrunner Softball Complex. With the win, the Antelopes improve to 18-16 overall and 3-1 in the WAC. The Roadrunners drop to 9-29-1 on the season and 0-4 in WAC play with the loss.
Camree Wartman was 2-for-3 with a double, a homer and three RBI. Haley Walker was 2-for-2 with a double, two runs scored and two RBI, while Lauren Regester was 2-for-3 and drove in two runs.
Stephanie Pesqueira earned the shutout in the circle, improving to 9-7 on the season. She scattered four hits and struck out two over seven innings.
Amber Mills suffered the loss, dropping to 1-4 on the year. She gave up three runs on three hits over two innings. Sydney Raeber threw three innings in relief, allowing five runs on five hits while striking out three.
Seattle U 8, Utah Valley 7
The Redhawks scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat Utah Valley 8-7 in the first half of a doubleheader Friday, snapping a nine-game losing skid. The Wolverines out-hit Seattle U 14-9 in the loss.
Lisa Maulden was was 2-for-4 with a double and four RBI, while Hayley Beckstrom had a two-run double. Paige Bouska was 2-for-3 and drove in the winning run.
Alyssa Reuble earned the win in relief to improve to 3-9 on the season. She allowed three runs on seven hits and struck out two over two innings. Starter Richelle Ashburn allowed three earned runs on seven hits and struck out four over five innings.
Bailey Moore took the loss, dropping to 1-5 on the season. She gave up four runs on four hits while striking out three and walking three over 1.1 innings.
Seattle U 4, Utah Valley 3
The Redhawks scored two unearned runs that proved to be the difference in a 4-3 win over Utah Valley in the nightcap to improve to 13-24 overall and 2-3 in WAC play. The Wolverines fall to 10-22 on the season and 3-2 in the WAC with the defeat.
Karina Smyth was 2-for-2 on the game, while Brianna Guerrero drove in a run for Seattle U.
Lindsay Davis earned the complete-game win to improve to 5-6 on the season. She allowed three runs, one earned, on six hits.
Josi Summers suffered the loss, giving up four runs, two earned, on five hits with three strikeouts. She drops to 6-11 on the year.
