Utah Valley 5, Chicago State 4

CHICAGO –(UVU Media Relations) Utah Valley University held off Chicago State to win the first game of a doubleheader, 5-4, and then used some timely two-out hitting to take the second game, 7-2, on Saturday afternoon. The Wolverines (12-18, 5-3) have now won a season high five straight games.

Starters Andrew Freter and Ryan Evans both picked up wins in quality starts. Evans (2-2) did not surrender an earned run for his second straight start and battled through four errors in the second game. He struck out five in 6.2 innings, allowing just two unearned runs on seven hits.

New Mexico State 7, Northern Colorado 4

GREELEY, Colo. –(NMSU Media Relations) Right hand pitcher Riley Barr worked 7.1 innings on the mound for the New Mexico State baseball team picking up a season-high eight strikeouts as the Aggies held off Northern Colorado to win 7-4, Saturday, April 5 in Greeley, Colo. NM State is now back to .500 in Western Athletic Conference play at 4-4 and 12-18 overall on the year.

Barr allowed only two runs and walked just three of the 35 batters he faced and dropped his ERA to 2.60 on the year. Closer Trey Gonzales entered the game in the eighth and, although he allowed two runs to cross the plate, earned his fifth save of the year.

Sacramento State 4, Seattle U 3 (15)

SACRAMENTO, Calif. –(SAC Media Relations) In the longest game in the Division-I history of the program (since 1990) Sacramento State freshman Brandon Hunley drove home junior Scotty Burcham in the bottom of the 15th inning to give the Hornets a 4-3 win on Saturday.

"I just wanted to end it," said Hunley after the winning single in his seventh at-bat of the game. "Our pitchers were working really hard to get us out of jams and let us get back in there every inning, so I just wanted to get that run in. When I was running out there I didn't really think it was over until the guys started running out to the field."

Texas-Pan American 7, Grand Canyon 6

EDINBURG –(UTPA Media Relations) The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs baseball team posted three multi-run innings in a 7-6 victory over the Grand Canyon University Antelopes on Saturday at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.

Down 2-0 after half an inning, the Broncs (13-20, 3-5 WAC) responded by putting their first crooked number on the scoreboard. With runners at second and third and nobody out, senior Alex Howe and sophomore PSJA alum Bryan Ramirez came up with RBI-groundouts to tie the game.

OMAHA, Neb.-(UND Media Relations_ A two-out, ninth-inning rally helped host Creighton escape with a doubleheader sweep Saturday afternoon at TD Ameritrade Park in non-conference action. After taking the first game, 6-2, the Jays rallied from down 3-2 with two out in the ninth to take a 4-3 win in the nightcap.

"We gave up two runs in the ninth, but give them credit, they came up big with a pinch-hit triple to tie it and setup the winning run," UND head coach Jeff Dodson said. "I thought we pitched pretty well tonight with Zach Muckenhirn and Ellery Bresnahan having good outings in that second game, they just hit some balls hard in the ninth that gave them the win."

#29 Oklahoma 4, Bakersfield 3

NORMAN, Okla.-(CSUB Media Relations) For the second time in as many games, an early Bakersfield lead wouldn’t hold and a big seventh inning would lift Oklahoma to a 17-4 win in the first game of a Saturday doubleheader at L Dale Mitchell Park.

Bakersfield built an early lead beginning in the top of the first following a leadoff single and two walks by starter Adam Choplick who walked in the first run of the game as well. CSUB however couldn’t score striking out twice and grounding out to end the inning with the bases loaded.
