DENVER – Grand Canyon’s Shavine Hodges and Jessica Yates have been named the Western Athletic Conference women’s track and field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for March 31-April 6.
Hodges, a senior from Montego Bay, Jamaica (Colbourne College), took third in the 200-meter dash at the Texas Tech Open, finishing with a time of 24.00 seconds. The speedster also finished 11th in the 100m (11.77 seconds), the top mark in the WAC. Her mark in the 200m ranks second in the WAC.
Yates, a senior from Snohomish, Wash. (Washington State), recorded a leap of 12.24 meters as she placed fourth in the triple jump at the Texas Tech Open. Yates also finished fourth in the high jump (1.59 meters) at the meet. Yates’ mark in the triple jump is first in the conference and her high jump mark is third.
