Chicago State went 2-2 last week, picking up wins over Roosevelt University and Judson University ... the Cougars lost to Ball State and IUPUI ... junior Sergiu Muresan has won four of his last five singles matches and three of his last four doubles matches ... his ten singles wins on the year are the most in his career ... this week, CSU will face Western Illinois on Sunday and then Valparaiso on April 15 to close out the season.
GRAND CANYON
Grand Canyon fell 4-3 to Northern Arizona in its only match of the week ... NAU narrowly claimed the doubles point, but GCU claimed wins at No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6 to make things interesting ... Alexander Roggenkamp is 10-4 in singles, has won four straight, and is 8-1 in his last 9 results ... this week, the ‘Lopes travel to Las Cruces, N.M. to face New Mexico State on Saturday.
IDAHO
Idaho was off last week ... UI went 1-2 in its last action ... the Vandals defeated Seattle U, 4-3, but fell to Hawai’i, 5-2, and Portland, 6-1 ... Artemiy Nikitin went 2-0 at No. 1 singles last week, beating Seattle’s Kevin Lynch in three sets and Hawai’i’s Nils Schulhmann in straight sets ... Nikitin was named WAC tennis Athlete of the Week for his efforts ... this week, the Vandals travel to Boise, Idaho to face rival Boise State on Friday and face will stay in town to face UC Irvine on Saturday.
KANSAS CITY
Kansas City went 2-0 over the weekend, defeating St. Louis, 4-3, and Bradley, 4-1 ... in the tight 4-3 decision over Saint Louis, freshman Mike Psarros won a three set match at No. 3 singles with the dual tied 3-3 ... against Bradley, he scored the final point of a 4-1 victory over the Braves, again at the No. 3 singles spot ... this week, UMKC hosts William Jewell on Wednesday and Cowley College on Friday.
NEW MEXICO STATE
Last week, NM State swept Western New Mexico 4-0 to start off the three-match homestand to end the season ... the Aggies improved to 9-10 on the season ... junior Patrick Pfister won his singles and doubles match last week to improve his individual record to 12-4 this season ... he is now 2-1 at the No. 6 spot and took the match in straight sets (6-0, 6-1) to win the seventh of his last 10 matches ... the team will finish the regular season against WAC foe Grand Canyon on Saturday and UT-Permian Basin on Sunday for Senior Day.
SEATTLE U
On its Senior Day, Seattle U earned a 7-0 victory over Pacific Lutheran ... the Redhawks nabbed the doubles point with victories at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to go ahead, 1-0 ... SU would follow with six straight-sets victories in each singles match ... Riley Newman and Connor Leahy each defeated their opponents, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 4 and No. 6 singles, respectively ... Seattle U has one final dual match of the spring season on Friday, against Portland State in Vancouver, Wash.
TEXAS-PAN AMERICAN
In their only matchup last week, the Broncs lost 4-3 to Laredo Community College, the No. 2 ranked junior college team in the nation .... the duo of Joseph Bishop and Mauricio Fosado have now won three straight matches in doubles competition. ... the Broncs have wrapped up their regular season and are now preparing for the WAC Championships, which will be held April 25-27 in Las Cruces, N.M.
WAC TOURNAMENT TO BE HELD IN LAS CRUCES
The 2014 WAC Tennis Tournament will be held April 25-27 in Las Cruces, N.M. The WAC conference championship will be up for grabs, as last year’s champions, Denver, has since departed the WAC.
