EDINBURG, Texas –(SAC Media Relations) In a weather-induced double-header, Hornet freshman Sam Long pitched seven shutout innings in the resumption of Friday night's contest to lead the Hornets to a 3-1 win before UTPA junior Alex English tossed a four-hit shutout in Saturday's scheduled game as the Broncs won 2-0 and the squads split the two contests.
In a pair of pitching duels the teams combined to score just two earned runs over the two games. Texas-Pan American (23-28, 13-10 WAC) hitters were 4-for-51 (.078) with 10 strikeouts and just four walks over the two games but managed to score three runs. Sacramento State (32-19, 18-5 WAC) tallied nine hits in the first game but only four in the nightcap while getting shut out for just the third time this season.

Texas-Pan American 2, Sacramento State 0
EDINBURG –(UTPA Media Relations) Junior Blake English took a no-hitter into the sixth en route to pitching a four-hit shutout to lead the University of Texas-Pan American Broncs baseball team past the Sacramento State Hornets 2-0 on Saturday at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
It was English's (5-3) third shutout in his last five starts.
English retired the first eight batters he faced before hitting a batter and issuing an eight-pitch walk. English then retired the next nine batters he faced. With two outs in the sixth, Nathan Lukes dropped down a bunt towards third and beat the throw for the game's first hit.

Grand Canyon 4, North Dakota 0
Grand Forks, ND-(GCU Media Relations) The Grand Canyon University baseball team (27-20, 16-7 WAC) secured their seventh Western Athletic Conference series victory in eight tries with today's 4-0 win over the University of North Dakota (10-25, 8-12 WAC) at Kraft Memorial Field in Grand Forks, N.D. It marks the fifth straight WAC series win for the Antelopes, who also recorded their third shutout of the season.
Starter Coley Bruns improved to 6-0 after allowing just four hits in the complete game effort. He issued just one walk and struck out four in his fourth complete game of the season. It was the first complete game shutout for Bruns since tossing a 1-hitter (7.0 innings) on April 6, 2013 at Fresno Pacific.

CHICAGO –(UNC Meida Relations) A day after the home run fueled Northern Colorado's comeback at Chicago State, on Saturday the Bears were kept comfortably ahead thanks to the right arm of senior pitcher Chris Hammer.
Hammer was brilliant in his 6 2/3 innings of work as he did not allow a hit for the first 5 1/3 innings in what turned out to be an 8-4 victory for the Bears (9-40, 3-20 WAC). Hammer (Greeley) ended his day with one run allowed on three hits and four walks, but by the time the Cougars (15-34, 3-17 WAC) scored broke through against him, the damage had been done.

OREM, Utah – (UVU Media Relations) Utah Valley University won both ends of a doubleheader, 8-2 and 9-4, to pick up a key Western Athletic Conference series win over Seattle University in the final home games of the year on Saturday at Brent Brown Ballpark. With wins in both games, UVU has clinched a spot in the WAC Tournament, which begins May 21 in Mesa, Arizona.
The Wolverines (24-25, 15-9) scored six times in the bottom of the eighth of game one to break a 2-2 tie and pick up the win. In game two, after the Redhawks (23-23, 11-10) scored three times in the top of the first, UVU put five on the board in the bottom of the inning en route to the twin bill sweep.

Bakersfield 7, New Mexico State 6 (13)
BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--(CSUB Media Relations) Bakersfield (23-27, 14-9 WAC) rallied three times from one-run deficits to defeat New Mexico State (18-27, 9-11 WAC) 7-6 in 13 innings Saturday night at Hardt Field.
Mylz Jones' (So., Palmdale, Calif., Paraclete HS) two-out RBI double in the bottom of the first opened the scoring. A Roadrunner error in the top of the fourth led to two unearned Aggies' runs. New Mexico State added two more in the fifth on a single from Kyle Kilgore who drove in both with a single. It wasn't for Gusbeth's 10th outfield assist of the inning, the Aggies would have scored more in the inning.
