DENVER – Utah Valley’s Trac Norris and Idaho’s Andrey Levkiv have been named the Western Athletic Conference men’s track and field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for May 5-11.
Norris, a sophomore from Panguitch, Utah (Panguitch HS), a week removed from setting a new school record in the 1-mile run, continued his strong season by winning the 3000-meter steeplechase at the Oxy Invitational in Los Angeles. The Wolverine distance runner won the event with a blazing time of 8:59.94. Norris’ sub 9-minute time in the steeplechase is also fast enough to lead the conference and rank him 37th in the West Region.
Levkiv, a senior from Renton, Wash. (Hazen HS), improved his WAC-leading mark in the shot put and became the conference leader in the discus throw at the Vandal Jamboree. Levkiv finished fourth in the discus throw with a career-best toss of 158-9 (48.40m). He also won the shot put event with a season-best mark of 57-5.75 (17.52m). His shot put mark ranks 32nd in the NCAA West region and 76th in the NCAA so far this season.
Other Track Nominees: Shaddye Melu, Seattle U.
Other Field Nominees: Jesse Villines, Idaho.
