Grand Canyon University swimmer Ivan Nechunaev was named to the Capital One Academic All-District 8 At-Large Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The senior, who was been equally impressive in the classroom as he has been in the pool, holds a 4.0 GPA in his pursuit of a Master of Science in Accounting after finishing his undergraduate degree with a 3.98 GPA. Nechunaev swam to a pair of school records in the 200-fly (1:47.35) and 100-IM (49.77 seconds) during his final campaign with GCU. He also posted the second-fastest time in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) in 100-fly, clocking a time of 46.89 seconds and was honored as the WAC Swimmer of the Week from Dec. 30-Jan. 5.
In addition to his impressive 2014 accolades, the Russia native was crowned as the 2013 Elite 89 Award Winner for NCAA Division II men's swimming, was a six-time All-American, and was part of the 400-medley team that raced to a national championship.
Nechunaev advances to the national ballot for NCAA All-American consideration.
The men's swimming team closed out the season taking home first-place honors at the inaugural CSCAA Collegiate Classic D-I National Invitational.
