WAC Baseball Recaps - May 6

UC Santa Barbara 7, Bakersfield 3

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.-(CSUB Media Relations) UC Santa Barbara (27-14-1) scored four runs on just two hits in the top of the eighth as the Gauchos defeated Bakersfield (20-27) 7-3 Tuesday night.

Robby Nesovic reached on a CSUB passed ball after striking out to open the eighth. Pinch-runner Ryan Clark moved to second on an Andrew Calica's sac bunt. Woody Woodward walked to bring up Newell who hit by an Alec Daily (Fr., Temecula, Calif., Great Oak HS) pitch to load the bases. 'Runner closer Max Carter (Fr., Bakersfield, Calif., Stockdale HS) came in to face pinch hitter Billy Fredrick. Fredrick singled to left to drive in Clark for the go-ahead run.

MILWAUKEE -(CSU Media Relations) Chicago State baseball earned a split in a non-conference doubleheader at Milwaukee on Tuesday (May 6) afternoon at Henry Aaron Field. The Cougars surrendered leads in the sixth innings of both seven-inning games but rallied back in game two for the win.

Despite earning 13 walks in game one, nearly an average of two an inning, the Cougars couldn't come up with enough timely hits to earn the win in game one. Juniors Chase Matheson (McHenry, Ill./McHenry) and Robert Swenson (Mason City, Iowa/Mason City) each walked three times.
