Texas-Pan American 2, Huston-Tillotson 1

EDINBURG –(UTPA Media Relations) The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs women’s soccer team won the first home match in program history 2-1 over the Huston-Tillotson University Rams on Wednesday at Edinburg Baseball Stadium in front of a raucous crowd of 1,743.

Three Broncs (2-0-1) freshmen combined on all the scoring, as Andreya Barrera and Allyson Smith each had a goal and assist while Aimie Inthoulay set-up both plays with crosses.

The Broncs got the scoring started at the 10:26 mark in the first, when Inthoulay sent a cross from the right corner that Smith deflected to Barrera for the first home goal in program history.

UTEP 5, New Mexico State 0

EL PASO, Texas – (NMSU Media Relations) New Mexico State couldn’t overcome UTEP’s lightning-quick start and fell, 5-0, Wednesday evening in the first episode of The Battle of I-10 for the 2014-15 sports calendar.

UTEP improves to 2-0-1 and NM State falls to 0-3-0 on the season.

It didn’t take long for the Miners to find the back of the net. At 1:09 in the first half Aleah Davis scored on a header and two minutes later Hannah Nicholson found pay dirt and the Miners opened up a 2-0 lead.
