HOUSTON, Texas – (GCU Media Relations) Grand Canyon finished off a perfect weekend to start the regular season with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-12, 25-22) victory over New Orleans to win the Texas Southern Invitational in Houston, Saturday.
The Antelopes went 3-0 and won all nine of their sets. Freshman outside hitter Natalie Tardy and senior liberoMackenzie Phelps were tournament MVPs.
Tardy added nine more kills today. She had 33 in two matches Friday. Phelps had double-figure digs in each match of the tournament, adding a season-high 13 today. In Saturday's victory, senior outside hitter Shannon Dugan had a double-double with a match-best 11 kills to go with 13 digs.

HUNSTVILLE, Texas – (Bakersfield Media Relations) Bakersfield split on the final day of the Sam Houston State Invitational Saturday, opening the day with a 3-0 sweep of Louisiana-Monroe.
Kelsee Sawyer paced CSUB with 11 kills and four digs. Molly O'Hagan charted 10 kills and six blocks. Danika Youngblood recorded 13 digs and eight kills.
Bakersfield dropped a 3-0 decision to Sam Houston State to close tournament play. O'Hagan led Bakersfield with 11 kills and four blocks. Luiza Martins registered a double-double of 36 assists and 10 digs. Mariah Alvidrez tallied 17 digs while Youngblood had 12.

OMAHA, Neb. – (UMKC Media Relations) The Missouri-Kansas City volleyball team picked up its first two wins of the season on Saturday, knocking off Central Michigan 3-0 in the morning before taking down tournament host Omaha 3-2 in the afternoon on the final day of play in the DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Omaha Classic.
In the opening match, junior Sydney Crimmins paced the Kangaroos with a team-high 11 kills and nine digs, while against the Mavericks, classmate Jessica Hendin led a group of five ‘Roos with double figure kills at 15 to go along with a career-high 26 digs.
In the final match, Crimmins (10 kills, 12 digs), Buhrow (10 kills), Muff (11 kills) and Emma Hagedorn (11 kills) joined Hendin with 10+ kills, while Taryn Miller chipped in 22 digs and Nicole Wemhoff registered her first double-double of the year with 22 assists and 16 digs.
Hendin and Hagedorn each garnered all-tournament honors.

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – (NM State Media Relations) The New Mexico State volleyball team suffered its first two defeats of the season on Saturday as the Aggies started the day by losing to Montana State in four sets, 25-19, 25-20, 18-25, 25-18, and finished play at the Utah Classic by losing to host Utah in straight sets, 25-17, 31-29, 27-25.
One bright spot for NM State on Saturday was the placement of junior middle blocker Gwen Murphy on the all-tournament team. Murphy finished with 24 kills, including a match-high 13 against Montana State, and 12 block-assists.

HUNTSVILLE, Texas – (UTPA Media Relations) In a match that featured 29 ties and 14 lead changes in the first three sets, the University of Texas-Pan American Broncs volleyball team fell to the Mississippi State Bulldogs 3-1 at the Sam Houston Invitational on Saturday at Johnson Coliseum.
Sophomore Anjané Janda led the Broncs with eight kills. Two Broncs reached double-figures in assists as freshman Mary Kate Clark tied for the match-lead with 21 assists and eight digs, while junior Maisy Munson had 12 assists and six digs. Senior Nausheen Merchant led the Broncs with 15 digs. Junior Haley Durham posted a team-high five blocks.

HUNTSVILLE, Texas – (UTPA Media Relations) – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs volleyball team fell to the Sam Houston State University Bearkats 3-2 (23-25, 25-17, 25-14, 19-25, 15-6) to close out the Sam Houston Invitational on Saturday at Johnson Coliseum.
Junior Haley Durham earned All-Tournament Team honors after leading the Broncs with 25 kills (2.08 per set) on .250 hitting with 16 blocks (1.33 per set).
Sophomore Alisha Watson led the Broncs against the Bearkats with 12 kills and four blocks. Freshman Mary Kate Clark had 25 assists while junior Maisy Munson had 17. Three Broncs reached double-figures in digs, led by senior Nausheen Merchant, who had 20. Redshirt junior Macey Singleton posted 11 digs while sophomore Anjané Janda had a career-high 10 digs to go with eight kills. Redshirt senior Maria Kliefoth led the Broncs with five blocks.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – (SU Media Relations) The Seattle University volleyball team battled one of the top teams in the country, but the offense of second-ranked Texas prevailed, as the Longhorns defeated the Redhawks, 3-0 (25-14, 25-12, 25-15), Saturday afternoon as the Lobo Classic concluded at the Johnson Center.
Matea Mamic once again led the Seattle U offense with eight kills and a service ace, and she was named to the all-tournament team after finishing the weekend with 33 kills, 12 digs, five service aces, and five total blocks. Stephanie Stoll led Seattle U at the net with four total blocks, while Iris Ivanis earned six digs to go along with four kills and Kerry Lane finished with 23 assists.

LAWRENCE, Kan. – (UVU Media Relations) The Utah Valley University volleyball team concluded its opening weekend with a 3-1 loss to Lipscomb on Saturday morning at the Kansas Invitational (23-25, 25-23, 17-25, 15-25). The Wolverines (0-3) will look to rebound on Monday afternoon against Wyoming at Evanston High School in Evanston, Wyo.
Despite suffering the defeat, junior middle blocker Lauren Bakker -- who was recently tabbed the WAC's Preseason Player of the Year -- had a big game with 13 kills, eight blocks and a .357 hitting percentage. Sophomore outside hitter Macky Treanor too played well for UVU as she recorded a team-high 14 kills and a .270 attack percentage.

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Cougars dropped their final two matches at the Indiana State Classic Saturday, falling in four sets to the host Sycamores before being swept by Wright State in their tournament finale. With the losses, Chicago State falls to 1-3 on the season.
Against Indiana State, Elli Woinowsky finished with 14 kills, while Julia Menhart had a team-best 11 digs.
In the loss to the Raiders, Woinowsky led the Cougars with eight kills, while Menhart had 14 digs.
