Missouri-Kansas City 3, North Dakota State 2 (25-17, 24-26, 12-25, 25-22, 15-11)

PEORIA, Ill. – (UMKC Media Relations) After facing North Dakota State (2-6) 15 times as Summit League foes and falling each time, the Missouri-Kansas City volleyball team (5-3) picked up its first ever win against the Bison, 3-2 on Friday at the Renaissance Coliseum in Peoria, Ill., for the opener of the CEFCU Classic.

The ‘Roos dominated the match on the defensive end, out-blocking the Bison 14 to 7, including a receiving season-high 10 from Emma Hagedorn, while Taryn Miller finished with a season-high 35 of the ‘Roos 100 digs

Utah Valley 3, Jackson State 0 (25-8, 25-16, 25-18)

DENTON, Texas – (UVU Media Relations) The Utah Valley University volleyball team opened the Mean Green Classic with a 3-0 sweep over Jackson State University on Friday afternoon at the University of North Texas (25-8, 25-16, 25-18).

Sophomore Nakisha Willden led the Wolverines (2-7) with 10 kills and a .389 attack percentage while junior Lauren Bakker added eight kills of her own, an impressive .615 hitting percentage and a match-high five blocks. As a team, UVU outhit the Lady Tigers .316 to .054 in the match.

Chicago State 3, IU Northwest 0 (25-14, 25-15, 25-8)

(CSU Media Relations) The Cougars snapped a 64-match home losing skid that dated back to Oct. 13, 2007, with a 3-0 (25-14, 25-15, 25-8) win over Indiana University Northwest this afternoon at Jacoby Dickens Centrer as part of the CSU Cougar Classic.
 
Junior Elli Woinowsky tallied a match-high 10 kills and added three service aces. Juniors Chelsea Sheldon-Medina and Essence Jackson-Jones each recorded eight kills for the Cougars. Freshman Sarah Metcalfe produced match highs of 16 assists and five service aces.

Chicago State 3, Purdue North Central 0 (25-20, 25-18, 25-19)


CHICAGO, Ill. – (CSU Media Relations) The Chicago State volleyball team concluded the first day of the CSU Cougar Classic on a good note as it captured a 3-0 (25-20, 25-18, 25-19) victory over Purdue North Central tonight at the Jacoby Dickens Center.

Junior Elli Woinowsky tied for match high honors in kills by finishing with 10 for the Green and White. Sophomore Chinwendu Ngwadom produced nine kills and hit .467 (9-2-15) on the evening, and junior Essence Jackson-Jones tallied a .556 hitting clip (6-1-9) with three block assists.

Northern Arizona 3, Grand Canyon 0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-18)

Grand Canyon 3, Albany 2 (20-25, 25-23, 25-22, 23-25, 15-11)

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – (GCU Media Relations) Freshman Natalie Tardy had a career-best 27 kills – the most by an Antelopes player since 2009 – in a 3-2 win over Albany and Grand Canyon (6-2) split matches at the Lumberjack Classic at Rolle Activity Center in Flagstaff, Ariz., Friday.

Against Albany, GCU won by set scores of 20-25, 25-23, 25-22, 23-25, 15-11. Earlier in the day, GCU lost 3-0 to host Northern Arizona, 25-18, 25-18, 25-18.

Senior libero Mackenzie Phelps, already the program's all-time leader in digs, went over the 2,000 mark for her career. She had a season-best 33. Senior Shannon Dugan aided the cause with an impressive 21-kill, 22-dig performance. Sophomore setter Michelle Steagall joined the double-double brigade with a career-best 57 assists and 12 digs.

In the first meeting between state rivals since 1993, Grand Canyon (5-2) lost to Northern Arizona (7-0) in Flagstaff, 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-18) Friday. Tardy had 10 kills and eight digs. Dugan had nine kills and Phelps had 12 digs.

No. 14 Colorado State 3, New Mexico State 0 (26-24, 28-26, 25-23)

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – (NMSU Media Relations) In a match that saw 35 total ties, two sets go into extra points and all sets decided by two points, the New Mexico State volleyball team lost to the 14th-ranked Colorado State Rams in three sets, 26-24, 28-26, 25-23, on Friday night inside the Pan American Center.

The Aggies outhit the Rams .252 to .218 and outblocked them 10 to six, but eight service errors, twice as many as their counterparts, would prove costly for NM State.

Junior Andrea Tauai marked her second-consecutive double-double to lead the Aggie attack after finishing with a team-high 13 kills while adding 10 digs.  Bradley Nash and Sasha-Lee Thomas each added nine kills while Thomas also had a team-high .400 hitting percentage.

UNLV 3, Seattle U 0 (25-16, 25-18, 27-25)

SEATTLE, Wash. – (SU Media Relations) After struggling in the first two sets, Seattle University nearly extended its match against UNLV into a fourth set, but the Rebels were able to pull out a 3-0 victory (25-16, 25-18, 27-25) over the Redhawks Friday afternoon in the Invitational at Seattle at the Connolly Center.

Matea Mamic led the Redhawks with 10 kills and a .261 hitting percentage, while six of Jelena Vujcin’s nine kills came in the third set. Iris Ivanis collected six kills, nine digs, a service ace, and two blocks, Kerry Lane contributed 28 assists, three kills, eight digs, and three block assists, and Shelby Babcock added 12 digs to the Redhawk effort.

Louisiana Tech 3, at Texas-Pan American 1 (31-29, 26-24, 23-25, 25-19)


RUSTON, La. – (UTPA Media Relations) Despite a season-high three Broncs reaching double-figures in kills, the University of Texas-Pan American Broncs volleyball team fell to the Louisiana Technical University Techsters 3-1 to open up the LA Tech Invitational on Friday at Thomas Assembly Center.
 
The Broncs (1-7) dropped the first set 29-31 and the second set 24-26. The Broncs won the third set 25-23 before falling 19-25 in the fourth set.
 
Redshirt senior Maria Kliefoth led the Broncs with 14 kills on .433 hitting to go with four blocks. Freshman Alisha Watson posted 13 kills with eight digs. Junior Haley Durham finished with 12 kills. Three Broncs reached double-figures in digs, led by senior Nausheen Merchant, who had 15. Senior Krysta Freitas had 13 while redshirt junior Macey Singleton finished with 11.

Cal Poly 3, Bakersfield 1 (25-16, 17-25, 25-18, 25-20)

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – (CSUB Media Relations) Cal Poly defeated Bakersfield 3-1 in the opening match of the Cal Poly ShareSLO Tournament Friday night.

The Mustangs hit .355 in the opening set on the way to a 25-16 victory. The Roadrunners used an 8-1 spurt in the second set to break a 7-7 tie and earn a 25-17 win and tie the match. Cal Poly defeated the Roadrunners 25-18 in the third set and took set number four by a 25-20 count.

Kelsee Sawyer led Bakersfield with 13 kills. Danika Youngblood tallied 12 kills. Luiza Martins tallied 36 assists while Mariah Alvidrez had 15 digs.
